reflections of psychopathia transexualis
While reading psychopathia transexualis, here are some topics/quotes I found most interesting in dissecting:
Cauldwell displays hypocrisy when he labels transsexualism as "psychopathetic" and yet ends his piece with examples of case studies in which these transgendered were able to live completely functional lives.
He also speaks of a potential "effective rehabilitation treatment" that would cure those experiencing transgendered "issues" --> if it is so "problematic" how can he explain those cases who were able to live functional/normal lives
the word "psychopathia transexualis" implies that those who are transgendered are psychologically (mentally) deficient. This reminded me of problems we still face in society today with those who do not necessarily fit the "standards of society" in terms of sexuality. For example, a family member of mine recently came out to his parents in regards to his homosexuality. His mother became very upset as if he were fatally ill and suggested he go see a doctor to help him with his suggested "problem."
