Review Of My 2013 New Year's Resolutions/2014 Resolutions
* Read 50 books or alternatively, finish all the books on the list of the 50 Books To Read Before You Die (I’m like 19.5/50 right now).
I didn't finish all the books on the list but I'm like 35/50 with is a notable improvement since last year. However, my year end tally was 69 books! I wish I had known. I could have made it an even 70. Big win.
* Watch 100 movies. I used to watch like, 300 a year for a while there but lately I have been putting them off for television shows. My “To Watch” list is 475 movies long now.
I have managed to watch 100 movies but I think just barely. It was mostly helped by pounding through the films nominated for awards at the beginning of the year. The unfortunate fact is that a lot of these movies were watched at Bad Movie Night (too busy with work/TV/books) so the relative quality of the films I watch has really gone down. I'm going to try to make up for that at the beginning of this year. Win but not a triumphant one.
* Finish all the shows on my current television list (not including anime or any ongoing series).
I knew this one was a long shot when I wrote it but I am ultimately very satisfied with what I have gotten though in relation to television. I watched "Avatar: The Last Airbender", "Breaking Bad" (and in time to watch the final episodes with the rest of the world), the last season of "Dexter", some classic "Twilight Zone", I became obsessed with "Downton Abbey" with the rest of the world (even if my OTP is dead *sobs*), "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries", and a notable amount of "Roseanne" (don't ask). I also rewatched almost all of "Buffy" (I skipped the boring episodes of season 4) and all of "Angel". I also got into "Night Vale", not television but still notable. It may seem like a small list but that's a lot of hours there. Also good: my television list has stayed pretty much the same size and I think the only additions to make it the same size are miniseries. I call this a win.
* Go to Canada. Preferably Montreal. I meant to do that this year but I never got the chance.
Not only did I go to Montreal, I met Ana there! It may have been below freezing but ultimately, I got to see a lot and had an awesome time. BIG FREAKING WIN.
* Go to Washington, DC.
Speaking of epic accomplishments, Sarah and I spent Labor Day weekend there and saw almost everything. It was amazing. ANOTHER BIG FREAKING WIN.
* Exercise more.
I started running in March while in my room, watching stuff. I've run during episodes of "Community,", "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", "Buffy", lots of movies, and literally all of "Downton" (occasionally stopping to cheer loudly or cry). I've since given up naps and generally just feel better. Unfortunately since I started my second job, I have been working from 9AM-11PM a lot of nights so I haven't been keeping up in the last few months (and I've been feeling crappier). With my changing schedule, I will hopefully soon be getting back to it. Tentative win.
* Get a new job.
Not one but two!! One full time job doing what I did before but with more responsibility, slightly higher pay and did I mention FULL TIME and one part time doing something I have wanted to do since I was 14. True, I did get turned down from my dream job but overall I can't count this as anything other than a big win.
Extra: Go to France and Italy. The reason this is an extra and not part of the regular list is because in order for this to happen, everything has to work just right and I’m not going to count my chickens.
Unfortunately, I didn't since this was mostly contingent on me finding full time before summer. But since I have it now, NEW RESOLUTION.
Not On The List: Going back to England. This isn’t a resolution. This is fucking happening.
I also went to Dublin!
I kicked last year's ass.
2014 RESOLUTIONS
* Read another 50 books and/or finish the other 15 books on the 50 Books To Read Before You Die list. Also reread at least one book I own.
* Watch another 100 movies. This time, watch more important ones.
* Keep up exercise routine.
* Finish more completed television series because I really don't need more on-going series to watch. Also, catch up on "How I Met Your Mother."
* Go to Toronto (and maybe Vancouver?).
* Go to France or Italy. Or maybe The Netherlands.
* See more of America.
* Try to see more of my friends/call my friends more. I really need to do this after being in this work coma for the last three months.
I'm not very creative. Oh well.
