Found a writing piece about DeathMask that I completely forgot about and find it very interesting because 1) I have absolutely no clue where I was heading with it 2) probably one of the only writing piece I have that uses he/him to refer to DM and 3) is still a great piece of how I picture DeathMask and Aphrodite?

Edit: Completely forgot to mention the important part about my hc of Cancer Saints having a special tie/ability towards the deceased (Manigoldo could see the souls of the recently deceased, DeathMask can see the faces people had when they died)

DeathMask generally didn’t have strong feelings about the faces in his House. He was a man of spectacle first, so when it was needed he did harsh them a bit, for shock value. Otherwise, he didn’t treat them with less care than the livings. Or more, he liked to say.

Except for one.

“The face of the prettiest man to ever exist” Mei called it. A mask that generally didn’t yell, that showed more sadness than pain, more fear of something far than anger of death. At least for the others. That’s why DeathMask hated it. Because, contrary to everyone he could see its true expression. The one it had when its owner died. It was happy. It wouldn’t be an issue if it was just for that. A happy face would have been welcomed in a house where so many were fearful, angry and tore in despair. It was just that DeathMask hated this one.

DeathMask hated the straight turquoise hair that reminded him so much of curlier ones. DeathMask hated the thin traits of the face so similar to plumper ones. DeathMask hated that exact same beauty spot, underlining the left eye. DeathMask hated the way his look was losing itself beyond everything, staring at something beautiful he couldn’t see, the same look Aphrodite had when he talked about letting himself die.
