Hey full offense but Dream has PTSD and I can't stand that people try to pretend he doesn't
In this essay I will
Okay. I'm gonna say it. And yes I know this is going to end up highly criticized, and mostly by the people who are perpetuating the issue it addresses. But I gotta say it.
So, there's a post going around that says... Hm. One moment, I'll save this as a draft and go find it so I don't misquote, because I have misquoted things in the past or missed information and I want to make sure I do it right this time. So. I have screenshotted, and here I will quote.
"Also, friendly reminder that Dream and Nightmare are brothers in canon, and if you think otherwise you're either heavily misinformed or a moron."
And that was the entire original post.
So.
I really don't believe anything after their bolded words was necessary, but. Not my post, not my words. That is, however, my entire problem with it. I know already that this a very widespread mentality in this fandom. It's unfortunate.
I, as someone who doesn't write them as brothers, know that it is canon. I am aware. I simply don't see the sense in them being brothers, as a general element of canon, so I decided to ditch that. What I do not do is insist it's canon. I'm not misinformed, nor am I a moron, I just have my preferences.
I don't believe that's what this post was speaking of, though. Now, I could be wrong. I'm not saying I know without a doubt what they meant, which is why I'm addressing both possible meanings. I believe (and again I could be wrong, so please do not come in the notes as if I'm saying this as an absolute, I am not) that this post was written to say that anyone who sees, writes, or draws them as anything other than brothers is "heavily misinformed or a moron." In that case...
Friendly reminder that also, Ink is aro/ace in canon, Error is haphephobic in canon, and Error, Geno, and Fresh are not brothers in canon. This is not directed at the original poster, but just as a general reminder. These facts also do not deter people from seeing, writing, or drawing them as something other than (Ink) aro/ace, (Error) haphephobic, or (Error, Geno, Fresh) unrelated. And there's nothing wrong with that! It's not canon, but headcanons are great and fun ways to explore other possibilities with characters.
That being said.
Yes, Dream and Nightmare are canonically brothers! Maybe you were unaware, but it is the truth. Again, I don't see why, but it's not my story.
Yes, you are also perfectly fine to see them as otherwise. The only reason this is wrong is if you shove it down other people's throats. That's all.
Thanks for reading, I just felt it had to be said. Headcanons are specifically not canon, please don't spread hate for them.
Bed Thoughts
So I'm sure I've said this before, but when I go to sleep, I take a thought and if it can go on for a decent amount of time, I let it carry me off into sleep. Now, I don't get "shower thoughts," but some of my strangest or most brilliant thoughts are right before sleep.
One such thought was answering a whole ton of questions about the Undertale multiverse(s), and it dragged on longer and longer- but sadly I fell asleep before being able to write it down. A shame. The good news is that it was such an engaging train of thought that I kept it.
Why do skeleton monsters need to eat and breathe? Also, why do the ones who don't have souls not need to do these things? How does magic interact with the multiverse? How do skeleton monsters eat their food if their teeth are only on the outside? How do skeleton monsters kiss if they have no lips?
In this essay I will
Autistic people really be snatchin up the outcodes in UTMV
And honestly go wild!!!! Because technically you are right because you know!!! That's all that's important!!! Neurodivergant people deserve validation through representation so take it!
That's all I've got to say thanks
I have a small cluster of things I'm passionate about.
Some things I'm more passionate about than I am about others. I'm more passionate about my art and writing than band, but I'm still quite passionate about anything to do with the band, trumpet, or marching band.
My biggest passion, though, is making people feel loved, or at least making them smile.
And that's valid. It's not very specific. It's not something I'm going to make a career of. That doesn't make it any less important or fulfilling to me. It's a simple thing. I love making other people's days a little bit better. I love making an impact, even if a small one. I love giving my friends affection and support, and reminding even strangers that they are loved, that even if nobody can help them up at the moment, they can help themselves, find some joy in the little things. Just a simple smile, "Have a wonderful day," can make someone's day. Anyway, I'm rambling. What I'm really trying to say is
Your passion is valid, no matter how small or silly it seems. If it brings joy, keep doing it.
Here's Kat, checking in with the tea again.
Aro/Ace writers are amazing.
I mean, aro/ace people in general are p great, but I haven't found a single aro/ace writer who isn't ridiculously talented at writing- and specifically shipping stories. That is the trend I've encountered. Brings me to a point I want to express:
Aro/Ace people apparently know better than any other writers what a healthy relationship should look like. Let's learn from them.
Just a little thing
Okay but actually this is important
Never ever ever ask a trans person what their "real" name is, it's disrespectful and invalidates them as the identity they truly are.
However, if you'd like to know what their name before transitioning was, you ask for their deadname, and very politely.
They are fully allowed to decline and that is entirely valid, they may have some sort of trauma attached to that name or it may just make them uncomfortable to say it. Respect that and leave them be if they say no.
Again, they are fully allowed to decline. Don't bother them about it if they do.
If they do tell you their deadname, do not, under any circumstances, use it to refer to them.
It is upsetting for them and you just broke their trust by doing that. Don't.
Please use proper pronouns for people- they/them is a safe place to start and if you're unsure you can always ask. Don't be scared about it- a polite "Excuse me, what pronouns do you use?" works just fine. Most trans people quite appreciate you asking for their preferred pronouns and will gladly answer you.
Again, please ask someone's preferred pronouns before assuming what they use. They/them is perfectly fine to use before you clear it up.
I may not be trans, but these are definitely problems I've seen my friends who are trans face almost daily, and it's not fair to them at all. I can see the pain it causes them when their identity is not respected. Use their real names, not their deadnames, don't refer to their deadnames as "real" names, and always ask pronouns before assuming they use male/female ones.
Any trans person is welcome to add more notes to this list but I feel this needed to be said. Not just a post on "Stop misgendering us!!!" and "Stop being transphobic!!!!" but how to fix these issues. Most people don't even realize that they are misgendering you and/or being transphobic, so we need to be patient and not give them a negative impression of trans people by drilling the pain of their mistakes into their heads. How can we fix it? That's the question.
Just gave my friend some advice and thought I might share
