“Magic exists?”

“Yep it’s at the tip of your pen!”

Magic is sigils drawn onto any surface using an ink mixed with Story and whatever other mix ins one desires. However to truly have the spell do what you can it to do, you must add some of your own soul into it. Thankfully it’s not that hard as the spell will drain whatever it needs as it’s being drawn and the soul constantly replenishes itself! So don’t worry about dying young just from casting. Now there are 3 categories of magic; consuming, removing, and signing.

Consuming magic basically means the spell will consume whatever is under it + whatever it requires and use that as fuel. This type of magic lets the caster not have to use their own soul along with the ink (Thank god for that!) and instead it will naturally just listen to the orders of those around it. Although it’s the easiest to cast it doesn’t stick around as once its fuel has run out it too will disappear. The larger and more complex the spell, the more fuel is needed.

Removing magic removes whatever it is under it. How that gets removed is entirely up to what the spell says. It’s very useful for clearing out large areas and most combat spells are under this category. However it is the most draining on initial casting as it will go wild without the casters orders.

Signing magic simply stays on whatever it is drawn on until the sigil is disturbed or broken. It also can have multiple casters it drains from as this spell can be activated and deactivated freely. This one is most used to create artifacts (Magic Tools!) and can be mixed with the other categories to create specific spells.

As you may suspect from these categories, yes magic can do anything. As long as the caster can handle casting it then the spell will be casted. You may ask ‘If so then how can magic just cast anything with soul?’ Well that is because the soul is an amazing thing.

You see it is the soul that does the casting, the magic however comes from the gods. Years ago when humanity first started creating civilizations we caught the attention from the gods. Not the noble ones or the bastard ones but the eldritch kind. Concepts in simple terms. We call them gods because the gods can do anything, but do not have the intelligence or the creativity to do. Dumb things they are. So instead they leak their godhood onto humanity. This unfortunately did not give us superpowers or godhood of our own but instead caused our imaginations to come true. Not individual imagination but collective imagination. Otherwise known as stories, myths, folklore. This doesn’t apply to wishes or else we’d all be RICH! No it just applies to stuff like the stories we tell our children to keep them in line, the myths we made to make sense of the world, all those tales and ideas we share with each other. ‘There’s a man in the woods!’ ‘If you could stay alive in this haunted house for 24 hours you will get 100 million dollars…’ ‘The reason why storms happen is because there are two gods battling it out above the clouds’ All of these things become real when enough people believe or engage in it, creating phenomena.

“So how does this connect to magic” “Everything kid, it’s all connected”. Phenomena is not just the gods leakage, it’s the human soul leaking out onto it. Ours souls leak out everyday, when we talk, when we laugh, when we cry. Those parts of our souls are always there and obviously don’t do anything. But when we make ideas those, those have an impact as all the gods leakage has something to properly cling onto. Then when feeling interacts with those ideas it grows and grows until it becomes a Story Phenomena! Then it can be harvested. All Phenomena can be collected through storybooks once the phenomena has been… pacified! Then once collected you can bring your local supply shop and they will harvest the phenomena’s Story and you have the stuff to cast magic with. The thing that can do anything. Consuming it will allow any one wish of yours to come true, but of course the more you consume it the more your mind and body deteriorates and you just become soul… but that’s not important to talk about right now!

So now that you know all of that you must be wondering ‘So then why aren’t all of worldly problems are solved?’ In a heavy summary so we don’t lose the magic (hehe get it) of this, when the gods came so did their language. The sigils we draw to cast magic. So humanity did what it did best, it learned. Then with that knowledge it also began to destroy. When you allow a human to do anything, they’ll do anything! Haha… sooo after years upon years of horrific actions some wise men came together and decided to start everything off with a blank slate. Humanity will have their minds wiped of magic, of gods, and of phenomena with a select few excluded so they could make sure humanity never finds out.

These people are called shamans and they are the reason why you didn’t even know phenomena existed! Thanks to the modern world it’s gotten easier for shamans to deal with phenomena since most people don’t believe all of the stories and most phenomena just comes from engagements which is really easy to track. So if you see someone wearing clothes with the moon on it along with an eye, make sure you tell them thank you for their hard work!

Shamans live in a parallel world to ours, created by the moon goddess as the shamans believed her so. The patron god of shamans. Only shamans can enter as they have consumed the essence of her, and only shamans can leave. ‘Wait so is that why there’s always a moonlight building no matter the place?’ That is exactly right! Besides our amazing products (We sell Medicines, Technology, Clothing and much much more!) that we sell at amazingly cheap prices, we need easy ways to get from place to place to handle phenomena. So every one of our businesses doors not only acts as an entry for you to get exactly where you need, it lets us go exactly where we need to go!

“Well technically you are one of us now..”

“I don’t want to be.”

“Well we are the ones keeping your mom alive sooo you kinda have to be, unless you want her to die and you to forget her~”

“No!”

“Then listen up!”

Now dealing with Phenomena isn’t only just so normal people never remember magic, it’s also because phenomena naturally rots. Like food! However Phenomena doesn’t become spoiled like food but instead turns into plants. Big flowers “You’ve seen them!” “Please stop bringing it up.” and those flowers release spores like mushrooms. Weird stuff. Anyways if inhaled those spores become seeds and lay their roots inside of your soul so they can grow into proper flowers to continue to spread. Turning you into monster as it grows! Those flowers also set their roots deep to corrode their environment as well. We call them corrosion flowers! We really only started noticing them once the memories were deleted and phenomena had much less people to naturally keep it in check.. “Not to mention how we kicked out all the divine beasts” “What?” “Oh yeah right I have to explain those too.”

Now another thing you may be wondering is ‘What about the mythical beasts we made? Are those also Phenomena?” and to that i say No! Phenomena although it can sometimes look alive isn’t really, it’s basically something mimicking what it was originally. You see instead when it came to actual life, like unicorns or dragons, the gods would actually mold that creature from themselves then allow that to drop onto the earth! Creating divine beasts! At first the divine beasts were exactly as the myths stated but as they increased their population their divine status slowly drained out. Turning a Grand Majestic Dragon… into an oversized lizard. There was war with some, peace with others but the common denominator was that all of them would eat Phenomena. Even as they became less divine. So they kept corrosion from ever happening. However to prevent humans from ever knowing the gods existed, the shamans kicked all the divine beasts out into an island at sea. That island has a spell all around it to prevent normal humans from ever getting close and divine beasts from ever leaving, well weak divine beasts.

“That’s why we shamans have to be extra diligent because now it’s only us!”

“So my mom would’ve never even gotten sick if it wasn’t for you guys.”

“…Well yes buttt would you rather you and your mom be alive but in constant danger of someone just killing you-”

“We live in America and we were homeless that was going to happen with or without magic.”

“…You are a really dark 12 year old.”

“I live in America, I was homeless and my mom is in a coma because of a gigantic flower monster. What did you expect me to be happy?”

“Okay fair.”
