I am only $100 from reaching my $4500 goal! Today is my last day in Philly, and there is so much to be done. Still have to: finish packing my bin, double check my packing list, upload two documents, adjust a brake on my bike, and finalize my plan to drive to Providence!

I have also been recording a vlog and spottily getting time to edit and post them. I will try to post it daily, but allow some leeway for circumstance and priorities to waylay those vlogs. But you can see them all here.

Today I started doing some practice daily vlogs to see how viable it will be to do these on the road. So far the system I will be working with seems to be fine. Hopefully that keeps up and ideally I will work out kinks before the trip.

In a week, leaders report to Providence to begin our Bike & Build trip! Ten days until riders arrive and we start riding in THIRTEEN DAYS! I still have to raise $510 before getting to Providence, and I need your help to raise some money for affordable housing.

15 days and only $765 left to raise! Some nice weather and some helpful friends have really helped me make a HUGE jump in the last week. Still more work to do to get the trip to be incredibly solid, but I am confident we'll be able to get it done.

Last night I rode in the Ride of Silence here in Philadelphia. On my way I was getting really angry at arriving late, at the traffic in Center City full of inattentive and hostile drivers, and at the situation of what the ride is for.

But once I joined the ride and was surrounded by friends and familiar faces, I immediately felt better. It was great to be around so many other cyclists who wanted the same things as me: To complete our ride safely, to honor those killed in the past year, and to demand safer streets to get where we need to go.

The first trips have started this week and mine starts soon! If you haven't donated yet, you should! It goes to a great cause and the more we raise, the more we can give away in grants.

While fundraising on my trainer in different places, I have been explaining why I would even want to ride 4000 miles. For it comes down to service. Bike & Build marries so many things I love: Riding bikes, road trips, building things, affordable housing, team environments, adventure, etc.

And for me, the biggest thing is that Bike & Build allows me to have a huge impact of my service. My service to the families we build for. My service to the organizations we help fund. My service in helping my riders accomplish a huge task. My service to the young people in my life by showing them they can do huge things and make big impacts. My service to my country, of which I have seen more than most people ever will.

4 Weeks to Go!

I have received some tremendous help from friends, family, colleagues, and Philadelphians who want to support me, my work, and the affordable housing cause.

I am still in need of this last push over the next month before I arrive in Providence. These contributions go to a great grant program that supports amazing work.

I will be going out on a trainer just about every day off I have for the next four weeks. But more support will also help.

Today is Sunday, May 1st. Riders arrive in Providence for orientation on June 3rd! We are 33 days away from starting the trip! I have gotten some amazing boosts in fundraising recently and still have $1547 to go.
