So what happened is…I kind of did a poor job of planning this week. I am flying out Friday at 11am to spend the weekend visiting family in Texas.
No way am I doing 18 miles in East Texas heat. Not happening.
Meaning my long run needs to happen Friday morning before I go to the airport.
I always do my long runs outside. Always. It is extremely rare for me to run on a treadmill.
Given the time restraints though, my plan is to hop on a treadmill at the YMCA at 5am when they open and get through as many miles as I can before 8am. At a 9:30 pace and with 2 or 3 short breaks, I should be able to get through 18 miles in three hours. I have made peace with the fact that I might only get in 15 or 16. Whatever. Life happens.
To further complicate things, I’m hosting a sorority function Thursday evening (because you are never too old for those types of things). I’m just going to have to be really careful about what I eat/drink since I’ll have some serious miles only a few hours later. More great planning on my part.
My motivation to get through this week’s stupid scheduling headaches is enjoying family and my favorite Mexican food once I get to Texas. My running mantra this week is enchiladas, enchiladas, enchiladas.
