During Cyclonus’s brief reign over Cybertron, Wedge was one of the newborn Cybertronian protoforms who had been plucked from the Well of All Sparks and shipped to a clandestine black site to become a soldier in Cyclonus’s neo-Decepticon army—under the supervision of Trepan and Psychobat, this process involved extensive mental and physical reconditioning.
Wedge wholeheartedly believed in the Decepticon cause, having never known a life beyond the four walls of Black Site Alpha—and so he was quite surprised when Optimus Prime led a raid on the facility and liberated him and the other members of his platoon. Wedge followed Optimus Prime out of the facility and discovered that everything he’d been taught was wrong: the Autobot leader was not a bloodthirsty monster, but a kind and wise leader, and soon formally changed sides. Prime sensed the potential for good in this wayward young ‘bot, and suggested that he become a Rescue Bot so that he could learn how to put his skills towards constructive ends.
