It's a late rant but...
I know "Treasure" is a bit sentimental for us but can't whygee think any more creative name 😂😂 like... are we supposed to be shocked about the group name... 😂😂 cause I'm not after hearing news about it and what are they gonna call the fandom? Treasure makers 😂😂 I know Junkyu only have 1 braincell 😂😂❤ but doesn't whygee have a single braincell? Can't asahi donate 1 to whygee?
YG 보석함 (Treasure Box)
I have been following the YG Debut project and have some thoughts and was wondering if anyone else felt the same way as I do. WARNING: LONG AND SPOILERS, also excuse any errors, I just wanted to get then rant out of the way, and maybe share it.
There will be spoilers if you have not yet watched all of the episodes that are out as of today 1/1/19. I also know that there will be people that disagree, I would love to know your opinions on the show as well, and maybe you could change my mind on some things.
I do not bring up any trainees in specifics because I do not want to critisize them individually because I am not a professional. I may be wrong about my opinions and the producers of the show and YG as a company most likely know better than I do in some instances.
First off I think that so far with how they have been chosing those to be in the Treasure 7 (or 6 or whatever amount YG wants), they haven’t really been chosing them in a fair way. The first time they created the Treasure 7, He just chose the best like two or three from each team. But, I feel as though there were some trainees on different teams that were better than those who were chosen on some of the other teams. (Ex. Someone from Treasure E gets chosen, however there was someone better than them in Treasure D. I am using teams that do not exist to make an example, I know). So therefore there was some talent that was missed out on.
Then when those who were chosen to challenge the Treasure 7, were only chosen based on talent or charm that had nothing to do with actual singing, rapping, or dancing. These were the ones that were chosen by Blackpink (nothing against them tho, I love them, they just followed what the producers of the show told them).
Another thing that I have an opinion on is the Treasure C team. I love them, but I feel as though some of them are not yet at an age where they should debut. If YG wants to use their resources correctly, then he should debut the older ones and then the younger ones, then he can have more groups, more fans, and ultimately, more money (because that is what entertainment companies are created for, music and money). But there are the older trainees that have been training for years and are obviously ready for debut. I love the younger ones, I really do, but you can just tell that some of them are not yet ready to debut.
Another thing that bothered me is that YG said he just wanted a group that are pretty or attractive, but what about talent too? Is he undermining the actual talent and just looking for pretty faces? Like, that was kind of an unneeded remark and thought process for this show.
The one part of the show that I have actually agreed with so far is how the teams were chosen for the 2:2 battle. Winner actually chose the best pairs based on their teamwork, song choice, and overall talent as a pair. So that I agreed with.
The biggest thing that has bothered me is when they had the Treasure 7 and they had to pair up and then left one of the boys and he had to join the trainees again. Like, WTF? Is it a popularity contest now, and not based on talent at all. I understand the choosing of the Treasure 7, but if they were going to win their spot by winning against the previous member, or keep their spot by defending, and then not get chosen to be apart of one of the three pairs so therefore not being apart of the Treasure team I dont think that is the best way to kick someone off. It just makes them feel like shit because they werent chosen as a partner.
I am not going to lie, I have a bias towards those in Treasure A because they seem the most ready to debut. There are a few that I wish to be apart of the final group than others, but none of the bias is intended to show up in this rant about the show.
There was another thing about the Treasure 7 and Treasure 6 that I wanted to point out. There are too many high toned vocals in the selection right now. Don’t get me wrong, they are all very talented and have beautiful voices, but there isnt any low toned vocals. There is like one low toned rapper and that does add something interesting for the ear to listen to, but right now with the selection before the 2:2 battle for the Treasure 6 spots, there are just too many high toned vocals and they sometimes blend together too much. That is just my opinion. I understand if you disagree with me though!
