In mid-September of last year, I was pulling weeds around my Spanish dagger yucca, Yucca gloriosa, when I noticed a cute baby cactus growing underneath it. I didn’t know what it was, but I got uncomfortably close to a cold, but still active yellow jacket nest to cut it out of the ground.
Well, after months of not knowing what in the world it was, I found out it’s Tree cholla, Cylindropuntia imbricata. I’m so excited! These plants are gorgeous, and I’m thankful for the bird (I presume) that consumed the fruits of someone’s Cholla and gifted me with a free cactus.
