The holidays are upon us early this year. Not really earlier than usual... it's just that we engaged it earlier than usual. Or, at least, because I engaged it earlier than usual.

Thrift stores this year began stocking their shelves for Halloween at the end of August. That's normal. What's not normal is me indulging the decorations and costumes with photographs because I traditionally hold off on snapping those snaps until October actually shows up.

So. What happened?

Nano Banana's what happened. I wanted to take it out for a spin, this prompt-based ai Photoshop wanna be at the exact moment Halloween regalia was being set on store shelves. Bella's first. Then GoodWill. Then Value Village. Mostly inspired by individual decorations but I did take selfies with particular masks on while asking the ai to complete the costume, even getting it to remove the smartphone I'm holding in my left hand and forming that hand into a thumbs up.

So. End of August.

After a couple of weeks of that, we hit our wedding anniversary during which Kimmer gave me a pair of Christmas tree ornaments: a DSLR camera ornament to represent all the photos we took with our old SLRs slung around our necks when we first started dating... and a turntable to represent Linzy taking us to that Hi-Fi place in Ballard where we listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl.

I placed both ornaments on our tree, an artificial Christmas tree that we never take down and that Kimmer decorates and redecorates as the seasons come and go. Right now, the tree should reflect Fall. Nearly two thirds of the lights are burned out, though, until Kimmer slides me a pair of boxes of miniature lights, 100 lights on the single string that's in each box.

So.

I go about unwinding the three mostly burnt-out strings from around the tree as well as the single string of colored lights I managed to wrap tightly around the trunk of the tree that I'm now unwinding patiently.

Ish.

When I'm done, I wrapped the new lights around the tree, trying this time to conform them to each branch for a more three-dimensional vibe. I get about a third of the way up the tree this way before running out so I figure one more should get me to the top since the tree diameter narrows as it goes up.

No sweat.

The next day or two I run down to Hobby Lobby in Lynnwood where Kimmer scored the first two boxes and where I now pick up the additional box of 100 lights plus an additional box of 35 colored miniature lights to this time string straight down the tree trunk. Not going to wrap it around the tree. Just going to let it hang freely from top to bottom.

Back home, the colored lights work exactly as intended. The white lights, though, only get me to the halfway mark so, a day or two later I'm back at Hobby Lobby where I score two more boxes of white miniature lights and one more box of the 35 colored light string because the first one looks so good and hangs so easily once you decide to skip over the part where you wrap it tightly around the trunk :-).

Back at the house, the colored lights hang exactly as expected (again). Unfortunately for me I wasn't paying attention like, at all, when I grabbed these lights. And so I managed to grab one with the green wire connecting all the lights and the one with the white wire connecting all the lights.

Whoops.

So I'm back at Hobby Lobby a couple of nights later (cuz they're closed on Sundays), I swap out the wrong box of lights for the right box of lights and, when I wrap them around the tree they go right to the top. BAM.

Done.

Of course now that's done it's obvious our Angel up top needs some help. Looking at that angel, I'm thinking fairy lights to bunch around the top of the tree as a kind of lighted platform and either a string of 35 white lights to place inside the Angels robes or maybe just a small single light. Whichever I choose, these angel lights will need to be grab power from the last string of white lights embracing the top of the tree. With the fairy lights, though, I'm prepared to light them up and keep them lit it up with a pair of rechargeable batteries.

At this point, Kimmer's ready to step back into the process and reposition the branches to their normal more balanced look and then dress the whole tree for Fall. Me, I've got to head back to Hobby Lobby or Fred Meyer (cuz I'll be nearer to the one closest to us first) to secure the tree top lights I'm looking for.

Hmmm.

Now that I am looking at the whole tree, I'm realizing that it might be nice to have lights strung around the base of the tree, atop the skirt for when we get around to draping one there. Might look nicer once there are packages under the tree in a few months come Christmas Day. :-)

In other news, on the next to last evening of September, I adorned our evening with the soundtrack to It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. It is classic and perfect music with which to pursue the Fall season that's upon us. It's classic and perfect music to ease us into the holiday season starting with Halloween for which I also fired up the soundtrack to the Haunted Mansion ride including the spooky narration and the music.
