One of many appealing designs by the prolific commercial artist Leonard Cornwall Mitchell. Mitchell was New Zealand-trained, studying at Palmerston North Technical School. In the 1920s, he was head artist with the company Filmcraft, which later joined the Government's Tourist and Publicity Department, and he designed many posters and illustrations for the Tourist and Publicity Department in the 1930s. Other work was with W D & H O Wills and with Coulls Somerville Wilkie, and he was also prominent in the design of stamps and coins.
