This is how Day Three of Karen and John looked like…
Karen and John took Machame route which is the most difficulty but the most scenic. The route now turned east into a semi desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower, where they reached an altitude of 4642m after about a 5 hour trek. Lunch was served. This was definitely the toughest day so far. It is normally around this point, where for the first time, some climbers will start experiencing symptoms of breathlessness, irritability and headaches. Luckily enough, none of our climbers experienced any of these problems. After lunch they descended again by almost 658m to the Barranco camping area.
After reaching the high altitude of 4600m at Lava Tower, the true acclimatisation benefit of this day became clear. This descent to Barranco camp took nearly 2 hours and offered great opportunities to take some beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. The Barranco camp is situated in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall, which provided them with a memorable sunset while they waited for their dinner to be prepared.
They are climbing for something bigger than them, they are climbing for #charity.
