The Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain (Italian: Fontana di Trevi) is an 18th-century fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762.Standing 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world.

Thanks to the pressure of mass tourism, there is now in effect an admission charge to see this icon of Rome or to toss a coin into it. Having seen the Trevi on several occasions, most recently in 2019, I do not plan to return the next time I visit Rome.

SUBLIME CINEMA #671 - LA DOLCE VITA

This film was to cinema what Miles Davis' Kind of Blue was for music; it went beyond just radiating coolness, and it simply set the standard for exotic cool. This movie came along the same year as Breathless, and there was no turning back afterwards. It would take Hollywood a good ten years to catch up.

Technically it's still perfect. Beautifully shot with a leering, sweeping camera that feels more like a ride through a Roman fairy tale than a movie, and it's full of imagery and performances that are now iconic.
