I have done it, I have made a master triangle for the triumvirate! A diagram! Because for as much as we talk about these concepts, I, for the life of me, could not find an image of it in all of tumblr (does it already exist and the tagging system foiled my search? Maybe!)

Somehow not the weirdest roommate ad you'd seen on Craigslist. Definitely the cheapest though.

Was this the weirdest ad you'd seen? No. It was definitely up there though.

Okay so price wise it was ideal. Unbelievably cheap for downtown Pittsburgh, practically a steal.

People coming and going at odd hours? A little shady, but you supposed could have some legit reasoning.

Older than 25? Again- could go either way. Was this some dude who'd given up on dating apps? Or just someone who didn't want some young kid in their house?

You didn't even want to think about the potential weird reasoning behind wanting a roommate who worked from home.

But..... You glanced around the small set up you had on a friend's couch. A place to stay? For only $400? The offer was too good to pass up. You typed the first of two numbers listed and sent off a quick text.

Hey, I was interested in the room you have for rent. Could we meet first?

It took about 20 minutes for a response to come through.

Completely reasonable. When is a good time for you?

I set my own hours so I could honestly meet in like half an hour if that would be okay with you.

The quicker you got this over with, the closer you'd be to sleeping on an actual bed again instead of a pull out couch with frankly questionable stains.

My shift just started but if you want to text my roommate, I'll give him a heads up and you two should be able to set something up. His number should also be listed in the ad.

Okay so two people lived there, that either significantly increased or decreased your chances of not stumbling into creeps. Statistically it raised the odds of this being a legit house-share. You typed out an intro message to the other roommate and hit send, hoping you wouldn't be waiting around too long. 

Hey there, your other roommate said you might be available to meet up and discuss the room for rent? Let me know when and where and I'll try to make it, I'm free the rest of the night.

It took all of 5 minutes for a response this time.

There's a cafe on the corner of 7th and Graham Ave. How soon can you be there?

Well shit, you shot up, sending off a quick text before rushing to get yourself in a semi-presentable state.

Probably about 20 minutes.

Okay.

It took 23 minutes because your Uber got cancelled twice before someone picked up the ride and actually came to get you. It was pretty easy to guess who you were meeting as there was a man sitting at a small table in the corner, tapping his foot and glancing between a watch and his phone.

"Hi, I'm guessing you're the guy I'm meeting about the house share?"

"Huh?" He startled out of whatever thought process he was having, his gaze shooting up to you. There was a slight delay, like he didn't quite remember social norms, before he wiped his hand off on his pant leg and held it out. "Oh. Right. The room for rent. Michael Robinavitch, everyone just calls me Dr. Robby though."

"Is just Robby okay?" You let out a slightly nervous laugh as you shook his hand and introduced yourself.

"Oh. Yeah, sorry I guess I'm really just used to talking to people at work." He shook his head, hopefully at himself and not you before gesturing for you to sit across the table. "So the room- did you have questions or...?"

"More just making sure you guys weren't creeps to be completely honest, your ad was a little weird." You shuffled in your seat, giving him a slightly apologetic smile. It felt a little rude to say, but you'd learned that the truth was always the best choice. 

"Ah, makes sense actually. I've been around long enough to know there's all manner of weirdo out there. It might make a little more sense if I explained it some?"

"Please." You sighed in relief that he seemed pragmatic enough not to take offense to your statement.

"Let me just pull up the ad so I don't miss anything." He put on a pair of reading glasses, pulling them down to the tip of his nose and peering at his phone. "So the 'people coming and going at odd hours' are just me and Jack- we're both ER doctors, and then he also does some volunteer work with SWAT so we'll both be operating on weird schedules. 'Older than 25' was just for comfort. We're both.... well old enough for wrinkles so the thought of living with some barely-adult felt kind of weird. Someone with a developed frontal lobe also felt like less of a chance for drama." 

"If you don't mind me asking- why bother renting the room then? I can't imagine you need money that bad as doctors." You squinted at him, confusion overtaking the wariness from earlier. 

"That leads us into what I'm guessing is probably the red flag for weirdos here, I told Jack to leave this part off the ad." He rolled his eyes fondly, and you got the feeling the two men were close. "Our therapist had recommended moving in together, something about noise and companionship? I'll be honest I don't entirely listen to everything the guy says, but it did kind of make sense. Hard not to ruminate in your thoughts sitting in an empty house, harder to ruminate if there's more life to the house? Unfortunately it didn't entirely work seeing as Jack works night shifts and I work day so Jack thought about renting one of the guest rooms and I didn't really have a good argument which led us here."

"So..... you're just renting the room to have like background noise? Why not just turn on a TV?" You shrugged, before your brain told you to shut up and take advantage of the cheap rent.

"It's not the same, I can't really explain it but organic noise is different." He shrugged in turn, folding up his glasses and hanging them off his scrub top. "Are you not interested then? Cause I'll be honest I just got off like 14 hours of work and I'd like to go home and sleep."

"Oh yeah sorry, no I'll take it. $400 right?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Well I'm over 25, work from home, and need background noise even when I sleep so I think I'll be perfect if you'll have me." You smiled, sticking out your hand to shake on it.

"I'll text you the address then, just let us know when you're moving in." He shook your hand once more, a faint smile turning his face up and leaving you with one thought as you walked home.For someone probably 20 years your senior, he was pretty damn cute.
