In her very long life Kisa had been a lot of things - a sacrificial lamb, a prisoner, a dancer, a leader. Babysitter, though? That one was new.
"Guess it's you and me till your mom gets back," the compound was quiet save for the ticking of a grandfather clock, and Kisa is a little too aware of the walls surrounding her, the heaviness of them. She got like this sometimes, even years after escaping the Twister; got this antsy feeling that crept along her skin that told her she'd rather be anywhere but inside. As if she'd linger too long and find herself trapped again, unable to feel the night air on her skin. If anybody asked later, she'd just say Hope was bored.
"Come on, let's go get you a beignet or something."
