lookit hoechlin promoting fifty shades. gross. and he will be in both. bye hoechlin.
//I’m not putting the blame on TH shoulders. I hate the movie itself. This is 99.99999999999999999999999999% about the movie and you can add more 9s to that. I suppose I’m saying bad things happen when good people do nothing// OP here, IA, you're right, *we* need to fix this as the public. By education and boycotting this absolute mess. Because it's not just this movie, it's hundreds of them. They don't get as much publicity, but tv, music videos, reality tv ALL contribute to these scenarios.
". I hope to God that I never have to sit in a room and listen to any of our Nonnies, or the fandom in general, in tears as they recount their ordeal to me because they were tempted to try this because they saw the movie, as TH was in it, and it went too far and they weren’t listened to because it was all meant to be romantic" this really rubs me the wrong way as a survivor (not rape but could've been) and I don't know if it's because you're a man, but it feels like you're basically saying 1/2
2/2 that women are so dumb and easily influenced that if they saw the movie because TH is in it for a small role that they’d be immediately influenced to start wanting to be tied up and beat up by their lover. I wish people would stop treating women like they have no agency and are so easy to influence in every way. This is as bad as what 50 shades perpetuates. Please don’t do this.
__________
That’s not what I mean, nor what I’m saying. No, what I’m talking about a slow, insidious desensitization caused by this film and all the others that came before and will come after it. It seems to be already happening if this was considered okay for mainstream HW. Where such abuse becomes “romantic”. That doesn’t happen overnight, it takes years and affects both sexes alike.
My scenario is that this wouldn’t have happened if TH hasn’t started her on that path by being in this thing. // Not OP, but I agree with them, this is really far stretched and uncalled (and I say this as a rape victim). The only one who would be guilty of this horrible act, would be the one who raped his victim. Everybody is responsible for his own action. Imagine, if Tyler would play in a movie, lets say about a killings spree, and someone would watch it bc of him and then they 1/2
2/2 would plan and do excactly the same thing - would you also say, the massacre also happened because of him? A lot of people are influenced by a lot of things and if your scenario happened, then it would happen eventually anyway, because the rapist would havent understand the word “No” anyway. When we blame this on movies and their actors, we take the guilt from the actual offender - they and only they are responsible for such a horrible thing!
______________
I’m sorry to hear your experience. I’m not blaming TH or calling him anything. I’m certainly not passing the blame to him. The blame sits squarely on the rapist's shoulders.
I hope I have clarified this. What I meant is that at a con people say how Derek helped them deal with abuse. I meant how would he feel if someone came to him and said her boyfriend raped her because he convinced her to try and enact something from FSF because it was sexy. That they watched it because she’s a fan and saw it with her boyfriend to see him in the film. I’m not taking any guilt from the rapist. He is to blame. I’m just asking how he would feel. Egor
I'm sorry Egor but the only person responsible for rape is the rapist, not a book or a film and certainly NOT an actor participating in a problematic film even if that film gives a horrifically irresponsible message about consent. You're shifting responsibility away from the perpetrator to a piece of media and that is so troubling that I'm actually gobsmacked esp since you said you work with survivors. We are responsible for our actions not media. A rapist would be a rapist FSOG or no FSOG.
No. Of course it is the rapist fault. I’m not saying it isn’t. And I’m really talking about the film, books and media that romanticize this type of thing. I’m just saying that there can be unintentioned nudges in that direction.
