Warning: Spider talk
// Okay, I know this is a blog about puppers but I’d like to take a minute because I am a tad upset about something. Now I love tarantulas. Any spider smaller than my pinkie terrifies me but the big ones? “Arachnophobia, what’s that? How could I be scared of what is essentially a cat with eight legs?”
Today, during hike at one of my local nature reserves/refuge parks, I had a heart breaking moment. We were coming to the end of the paved road that leads to the park entranced after finishing a 2 and a half hour trek, when I spotted what I thought was a tarantula molt (cast off exoskeleton) for a Desert Blonde Tarantula and ran forward to the side of the asphalt. I used a small twig to examine the condition of what I still thought was a molt to examine this flipped over eight legger, chatting away about how gorgeous the under belly and fangs were.
Then I carefully turned it right side up and almost burst into tears. Here was a perfectly intact Desert Blonde... but it was deceased. It broke my heart to see this beautiful animal dead. From the puncture wounds to the top of its body I would guess it was an unlucky Male that picked the wrong Lady Friend or that it was simply an act of cannibalism which has been seen among tarantulas. I placed it back as I had found it and said a prayer for the little friend. I actually did cry a bit when my hiking buddy wasn’t paying me any attention.
Sorry for the long story/rant but I needed to get this out. It really hurt me to see the poor thing that way... Okay, all done. Back to puppers.
Idk if you guys know but I have severe arachnophobia which basically is the excessive and irrational fear of spiders. I’m triggered not only by a spider itself but for pretty much anything that indicates that spiders are nearby, such as webs or egg sacs. Even if I look at pictures of spiders or hear someone talking about spiders is enough to trigger my symptoms. And the symptoms pretty much include Intense anxiety or panic attacks, sweating, increased heart rate , increased blood pressure, uncontrollable crying and the start of many ocd actions such the unstable need of wash my hands and scratch myself.
All of this being told, my grandma asked me to pick some boxes for her and I didn’t see that on top of one of them was a spider. I grabbed the box and I felt the spider in my hand.
I can’t stop crying. My entire body is itching. I feel like there is not enough air in my lungs. I feel dizzy. I washed my hands so many times now that I hurt myself. I want to cut my hand off. I need help.
