Emotions of Weather
Have you ever noticed how people’s attitudes change as frequently as the weather? I am an avid runner. I am not amazingly fast or anything so I have plenty of time to think over everything…. obsessively! I also like to observe people as I run.
I must say for the most part I am greeted with many positive remarks while running – at least when I have my three kids with me. I mean people are really truly supportive (I actually think they feel like I am borderline torturing my children by making them sit through 6+ miles of running). Whatever their motives I appreciate the love. But let’s fast forward to the blue moon when I actually have an opportunity to run solo: people are moody. I am shocked at how “emotional” people are while out and about in the community. As a slightly pessimistic individual I am not the most cheery person but it always amazes me how people’s attitudes are affected by the weather, literally!
While I was running in overcast every person I passed had a scowl on their face! I mean I felt like they had something against me personally! I had never met these individuals but they all looked as though they hated life. People would act as though it was some big chore to let me pass them on the trail. Later I stopped to grab a coffee where a lady was complaining to this young barista about the temperature of her drink, how sweet the drink was, how they used whole milk instead of fat-free and the amount of calories that would add and finally the lack of whip cream! How are you going to complain about the excess calories but the missing whip cream?! The lady was talking to this young barista as though she was the source of all her life’s problems. I couldn’t believe someone would get that upset over a coffee!
So as the weather gets colder and less desirable, and once the romance with all things pumpkin spice fades it is my goal to not only stay fit but to also rule my emotions. I am not waiting for Thanksgiving or New Years to set my goal of being grateful and kind all year round.
So until next time, Crank up the beast mode and stay kind!
XOXO,
The Sour
