Our trip had a lot of surprises from giant pandas to pink dolphins but nothing beats the randomness of meeting Julia Wong of #triplelanternscafe. We never expected to see a cafe that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere in the fishing village of Tai-O. What's even more surprising is when I expected noodles, dimsum, or sea food but the menu was pizzas and cakes! Very delicious ones at that. The place is decorated with art work from prior guests. Julia grew up in Tai-O but worked in Japan and UK where she dreamt of putting up her own cafe someday. She speaks like an anime character which was very amusing and the best part is she doesn't really care much about profit offering to give another item on the menu for free if whatever you ordered wasn't to your liking and the cafe is closed whenever she's not on the island (that would be aug-nov this year since she'll be in the UK that time). Our guide told us that we were lucky we met her because most tourists don't get to. I felt like I saw a unicorn when I saw the pink dolphins but the real unicorn here was Julia.
