The palace was nothing short of vast, something that had left the visiting explorer completely perplexed on arrival. He could find his way through any area in the woods, armed with his compass and the sun in the sky. But it seemed that the maze of the Tuileries was something Santiago simply had yet to master, still unaccustomed to building with any more than a few rooms - his rooms in the palace were almost larger than the whole of his home across the sea.
It seemed that even finding his way to dinner was something of a challenge, though by now he should have known the way - much of the time, he preferred to eat in his rooms or take some food out of the palace with him, satisfied with something simple despite all the finery offered. But his presence had been requested tonight and so he was trying to sort out his way there, not even entirely sure he was in the correct wing of the palace as he kept walking.
Though eventually, he caught sight of a face he was certain might know where he was meant to be going. He had not yet had the pleasure of actually meeting the Marquis d’Aumont, though there was a curiosity in him about the man that was the center of so much gossip Santiago had overheard. Famous for his position among the Court; infamous for his supposed role as the King’s lover. If it was meant to be a secret, it was a poorly kept one if rumors of it had already reached Santiago’s ears, though he had no intention of judging based on rumor - God knew that it all seemed to flow like water, some of it more insidious than the rest. There was no knowing the truth of the matter, so Santiago simply did not acknowledge it, though the fact flitted across his mind as he approached the man.
“Monsieur le Marquis.” He ducked his head in a sign of reverence to the man’s title, still working out how exactly the niceties of the court were meant to function. “I do hate to trouble you, but it seems I have lost my way in trying to find where dinner is being served. I don’t suppose you could give me some guidance?”
