@the-sunflower-aki
Hermes had never been able to help himself - something about Iris was deeply enchanting. She was beautiful, of course, and vibrant. Not to mention, she was the only woman in any realm, as far as he knew, who could keep up with him, which fascinated him to no end. So visiting her had become one of his priorities when he finally made his way back to Paris, using his old alias, re-establishing old connections. He could never resist the opportunity to flirt just a little bit.
It helped that he knew Iris’s habits by now - the sorts of places she liked to visit. He was hardly surprised to find her out and about with her dogs in the city streets, materializing next to her when no one was looking and instantly falling into step beside her. (It helped that mortal memories were so fallible no one would ever quite be sure he hadn’t been there the whole time.) “You’ve not changed a hair since the last time I saw you, my radiant mademoiselle. Though you must introduce me to these new little friends of yours.” He grinned, amused with himself.
Surprise guest | OPEN
chasseuseartisane:
It wasn’t unusual for Artemis to get home and find someone inside her apartment. She left the door unlocked for a reason. While it’d been meant just for Apollo, who had the bad habit of losing keys all the time, a few goddesses had taken advantage of it to drop by whenever they wanted, and soon, any god that knew Artemis, knew that her door was always open.
She’d heard the signs of someone walking up the backstairs earlier, but since she’d been with a patient in her office, she’d ignored it. Most likely, it would be a welcome visitor, and if it wasn’t, Artemis was sure she could throw them out easily enough.
Finally finished for the day, or at least finished with her work hours, Artemis walked up the stair. Depending on who it was, she might be in for an interesting night, or it could be peaceful. Her days followed the same routine always, but her nights, those she varied. Rarely sleeping, taking advantage of the fact there was nothing mortal about her except her appearance, Artemis enjoyed the night for all the opportunities it provided her.
Pushing her door open, she headed straight for her bedroom without looking to see who her guest was. “If you’ve helped yourself to the food, I hope you’ve left some chocolate for me. That last patient is one of those women who thinks everything is doomed, so I need some sugar.” She shut the bedroom door behind her, changing out of her scrubs into a soft green dress, casual and comfortable. If it turned out she was going out later, she’d simply change. For someone who had no interest in being desired, she had a love for herself, pride in her appearance.
She walked out of her room, finally seeing who it was. Not Apollo, as she almost always expected it to be. “So what brought you by?”
“Just wanted to say hello.” Hermes smiled broadly, a warmth in his expression when he spotted Artemis coming into the room at last. He sat on her kitchen counter - and yes, he had helped himself to the food, nibbling on a small plate of bread and cheese he’d made himself - always at home with her. “I heard you were here too, so I had to come and see for myself, of course. I just got back from Athens. I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I had to figure out where everyone had run off to.”
He glanced up at her with a little tilt of his head. “What have you been up to, then - whatever you’re calling yourself now? Phoebe? You were something like that last time.” He popped a piece of cheese in his mouth, his eyes absolutely bright as he studied her - a deep fondness for the woman, with all their shared hobbies and their similar origin. “It’s a lovely little place you have here.”
powers of persuasion | hermes & calliope
@bcstardking
There was plenty to catch up on now that it seemed that all of his old companions seemed to be rattling around Paris. He could hardly blame them - it was a lovely city, a natural place to congregate. Hermes himself - taking on his usual French alias of Santiago de la Roche - had been all over lately. A few years here, a few months there. He had just come back from a reminiscent trip to Greece - weren’t those the days?
Calliope was a newer friend, but one whose company he truly enjoyed. They had a lot in common - an enjoyment in playing around with people, for one. It was fascinating, to get into competitions of sorts, to see who could be more charming, who could more easily play the mortals’ strings.
They sat together in a cafe, Hermes sitting with a plate of assorted macarons and nibbling on one with a hum under his breath. “They’re good, but yours are better, mon ami.” He conceded, letting his coffee cool in front of him, looking around the little cafe in curiosity - as always, his mind moving quickly, ten steps ahead. “We should play a game. It’s been too long.”
Crossed Swords AU | Mythology
Santiago de la Roche as Hermes - god of commerce, travel, boundaries, athletes and thievery.
Santiago has found he can’t stay put in one place for too long. The next adventure is always waiting, so this stint in Paris is just one of many stops. He’s known to be a little bit tricky - a little too charming for anyone’s good. If you don’t pay attention, he might just get his hands in your pockets. (Everyone needs a hobby, especially when you’re immortal.) He’s blessed with the gift of being able to travel anywhere at will - not just across the globe, but across the borders of mortal and immortal spaces. He’s been known to make a visit or two to the Underworld if he really feels like an adventure. If you’re lucky, he might bring you along for the ride.

simone--baptiste:
Chapels were not Simone’s favorite place to be in and she usually avoided them at all costs. It wasn’t that she thought faith to be stupid and ridiculous (albiet she did a little bit) but more so that considering the rising threat of the Red Guard and the Cardinal, she didn’t want to risk anyone recognizing her as Simone Baptiste. Still, she reasoned that stepping inside a chapel from time to time wouldn’t hurt so long as it was to gather more spies for her side of this battle.
She took great care to make sure she looked clean and presentable, wearing one of the dresses that Sybille had bought her so that even if someone did recognize her, it took them a second to realize this. As she entered the chapel, her eyes darted around, noting with frustration that there wasn’t anyone around except for a man that was vaguely familiar to her. As he spoke, she smiled at him and shook her head. “Non, I’m alright. I don’t mind the company,” she said easily. I provided her with a cover while her eyes searched for possible spies.
“Very well.” It did take him a few moments to register who had joined him - a young woman with only a distantly familiar face, though that was hardly uncommon. People came and went from court all the time, most not lingering long enough for Santiago to get to know them beyond a brief introduction or some conversation over a dinner table.
For a few moments, he stayed just as he was, mulling over his thoughts and his troubles in his mind, not giving any more thought to the young woman who had slipped into the room. But he did notice, after a short time, that she merely seemed to be surveying the space instead of turning to her prayers, and he was curious, speaking before he could altogether help himself. “...Are you looking for someone? One of the priests, perhaps? I’m sure someone must be nearby, if you need them.”
horrors | marie
chasseuseartisane:
“I used to take off into the forest too. Still do.” Marie smiled, thinking of her childhood. “My brother and I, we used to try hide from our Papa in the woods, but he had these two hunting dogs, so we’d never be hidden for long.” It was easier, thinking of those times, even if they were long gone now. “Maman used to get particularly annoyed, as I’d sneak after Papa and Marian to learn to hunt instead of following my sewing lessons. I never did like being where I was supposed to be.”
That wilfulness was what had gotten her into trouble. If she’d just do what was expected of her, she’d never have been suspected. But Marie thought it a worse crime to be someone she wasn’t.
His determination brought another smile to her face, reminded of herself. She could be just as stubborn. “Then I am sure you will find a way. Although, I’ll be disappointed, I do love hearing about people’s adventures. Makes up for not having any real ones of my own.”
Reminded of why she was in the city at all today, her heart sank. “Non, the people had no real love for him.” Her voice was clear with her disappointment. In these times, the people didn’t have much love for any of the nobility, since so many of them set themselves above the rest. Even Marie got annoyed with how some of them lived while others struggled just to live to the next day. She knew, thanks to her work at the palace, that the luxurious life could still be a struggle, but so many of them were still judgemental and thought themselves as more important. It was people like Alex and Annette that she could understand, but she’d never met d’Aumont, just his son. “His son is a Musketeer, but that is all I could really say of him. I’ve never been one for gossip, so much of it is a lie. I’ve never heard good things about d’Aumont, but I never heard bad things either.” She wished that he’d been loved, maybe it would make it easier to understand why people were acting like this, but without that knowledge, she knew it was just bloodlust and the unsettled nature that Paris found itself living in.
“Yes, I know the feeling,” he nodded in understanding, his tone as gentle as possible - trying to calm her some, given the wild circumstances they found themselves in now. “I guess it explains my love for traveling and adventure. I’m certain you’d make a good voyager yourself, perhaps in a different world.” Truly, she had more of a heart for it than most anyone else he had ever met, and he had assumed that only through a few meetings with her. “Though to be sure - I’m certain you have adventures of your own. You needn’t necessarily travel abroad to experience things. Things can be quite exciting enough here.” If exciting was indeed the word.
Their conversation turned to more difficult topics and he nodded in understanding, her hand covered by his own as they strode toward the city gates. “That is quite fair. And I can hardly blame you. I’ve learned in my time at the court that merely one wrong step can cost a man, once the gossipers dig their claws in.” He frowned, wondering idly what gossip spread about him. “...Though I’ve met his son. I don’t know him well, though he treated me kindly when we met.” He kept quiet about any further thoughts for a few moments, lapsing into a few seconds of silence. “I suppose all we can do is say our prayers for the people of Paris. Pray they see the light of things.”
the-sunflower-aki:
His voice was soft and reassuring, the gentle tenor lifted the corners of her mouth in response. Despite interrupting him in a very private session, he seemed to be willing to compromise on his own behalf. That was not a quality that she would assign to the French people that she’d be thus far despite the overall kindness of the French. French people seemed to have a very solidary goal in mind when they left their homes each morning and they were not going to return home until that task was finished. Akosua was surprised to see such a change with another Frenchma-…. The moment he spoke again she became aware of an accent that wasn’t obviously French. The knowledge alone that he might not be of this country peaked her interest. When he mentioned the prayers, Akosua dipped her head in slight embarrassment. How was she supposed to explain to him that she was merely here to eavesdrop on other worshippers? Would that be something considered “creepy” in France? She was given a moment of reprieve when he introduced himself. His name was decidedly not French and it warmed her heart to be with another stranger of the land. The final word sounded foreign in his mouth but it rolled off beautifully. “Hello, monsieur.” The well practiced French passed through her Ghanaian accent with ease but she wondered if he would have the same difficulties understanding her that others seemed to have. She knew that her accent was thick but she refused to attempt to lessen it and lose her heritage. She bowed with her upper half, bending her head to greeting to him. “It’s very nice to meet you, Santiago.” She smiled softly, neglecting to say her own name for a moment. “My name is Akosua Boateng. You can call me Aki.”

After so much time in France, he was growing accustomed to being a point of people’s interest. It would be a lie to say he didn’t enjoy the attention - didn’t enjoy the opportunity to speak about his adventures, share his passions. Even if he hadn’t been entirely successful in lobbying for funds as he’d hoped, and even if the talk made him even more homesick in the end of the day, he would enjoy what he could from it.
But something about this woman was different - the way she carried herself in the full skirts, the curiosity in her dark eyes. It didn’t seem to have anything to do with courtly politeness, but a genuine interest. Something about that warmed him, in a way.
“Aki.” He repeated the name she offered him softly - it decidedly not French, in the same way her accent was decidedly not French, but he hardly minded, just as curious about her as she was about him, it seemed. “It’s my pleasure, my lady.” He took her hand, a kiss brushed to the skin on the back of it before he straightened up, his dark eyes meeting hers for just a moment. He was fully prepared to leave as he had insinuated, to offer her good wishes, but his tongue moved without his permission, probably coming off somewhat blunt. “You are new to France? I don’t think I’ve seen you before. I’d think surely I would remember such a charming face.”
