Second Meetings | René & Simone

Since Fernand came back from where ever he was, she couldn't help feel weird. He was being distant and no matter how hard she tried, he refused to tell her what happened. Despite him being safe and sound at home, she couldn't help but feel as though he was going to disappear right before her eyes. It made her on edge and anxious.
The bonfires offered her a distraction. Of course, she set up her spies and prepared several opportunities to gather more money and influence, but she was looking forward to let her mind relax at least for a little bit. Despite loathing dancing in general, she had to admit that it was fun watching other people fail at it.
Night fell and people crowded around her, a mass so thick that she found herself lingering in the darkness rather than attempt to pry her way toward the warmth of the bonfires. She stared at nothing in particular, her mind running through escape plans and possible marks she could take from when she spotted René. She was tempted to disappear into the crowd, not wanting to see any soldier at that moment. But she remained where she was: watching him and waiting to see what he would do.
