“Inherited Taste” - a poem written 9/03/2021
You’re inherited taste, man! I’m self-made New Eccentric! You’re loved by your family; I’m orphaned egocentric. I’m no Junior or the Third; my word’s first generation is the one I’m living in, my name no imitation.
Hate the nouveau riche—I’m novel not in the elite sphere, but in what the older crowd would hold their better beats fear. Here to wreck the beauty of their ball they call eclectic, where red roses are dethorned and nothing can be hectic.
I’m no belle or whistling bird, I’m whistle-blown alarming, chopping down trees overgrown well past the point of charming. All the roots were dead; a little maintenance is needed. When success itself dries out, it must then be succeded.
So my poetry is “bad,” it does not fit the model of what’s “good,” but ducklings never fly before they waddle. Does this seem like sick revenge for my rejection? Maybe. Yes I’m childish. I had no one raise me as a baby.
