Very last minute, yes, but very exciting to announce that International Anthem is curating 1 night (Saturday May 16th 2015) of the You Are Here Festival (aka the Trouble Maze)!

The Festival takes place in New York City approximately once every two years. Between NYC installs the festival travels to other locations in America and around the world. Recently, the You Are Here Festival appeared in Berlin, and this May Empty Bottle Presents is bringing the festival to Chicago for the first time.

Over three weekends, events take place in a life size maze installation in the garage space behind a new piano bar on the ground level of Thalia Hall in Pilsen. Trouble (Laura Paris, Lawrence Mesich, and Sam Hillmer of the band Zs – the group responsible for You Are Here) designs and builds an actual maze into a gallery space accompanied by light, projections, sound, sculpture, and a myriad of performance and time-based arts events.

We curated our night around drums and drummers - hence are calling the thing “Trapped Sets.” IARC recording artist Makaya McCraven headlines, doing a rare solo drums/sampler performance, preceded by a new duo featuring taiko drumming maestro Tatsu Aoki & cellist Tomeka Reid, Zelienople drummer Mike Weis’s trio with violinist Leo Park & saxophonist Brian Harding, and an opening solo performance by Califone/Iron & Wine drummer Joe Adamik, who will be reprising the amazing percussion/woodwind/electronic sample-weaving set we heard from him at Bar DeVille a little over a year ago.
