Pay attention to the craftsmanship and materials of couches. All couches are not created equal! Even couches that look the same may not hold up equally over time. Be wary of inadequate support and materials that are not going to last as long as you need the couch.

Step aside, Santa Claus! Christmas has come early!
For this week’s Happy Hour, we are spotlighting a fantastic, biophilic bar! We think Percy’s and Co. of Seattle has masterfully integrated plant matter into their décor in a way that is not only pleasing to the eye and psyche, but to the palate as well! Are those edible herbs we spy?
Wouldn't you enjoy seeing where your garnishing greenery comes from?
Vintage materials are always the rage, so bring a little bling with brass beverage trays! Use them to create the perfect accent piece for a darker counter top and a neutral ceramic tile background, then add a pop of color with various bottles of your favorite libation. Don’t forget to serve in style with a pair of classic copper Moscow mule mugs!
(PS: Those two sculptural pieces are headlights from a 1915 Ford Model T!)
Have your happy hour, even in a tight space! An end table can function as a home bar if you're looking to maximize square footage.
For this bar, our friends at Situate Austin used two vintage tables refinished in eye-catching red—and paired them to make nesting tables! (Scope Trove Market for a couple and see what you can DIY!). The fabulous teal lamp is from Prize in Austin... and don’t forget your vintage cocktail shaker and tools.
All week on the blog, we’ve been talking about floor models—how to access their worth, how to use them on a quick turn around design project. Today I thought I’d show you a few of my personal favorite floor models from the Trove inventory. (As always, my picks are now heading to the Trove Hall of Fame!)
And the winners are...
1) Tall bookcase. I love layering these behind a sofa... it adds so much visual interest!
2) Davenport Sofa. In my opinion, this is the perfect shade of gray.
3) High Park Chair. The base on this piece is so my cup of tea (as my old mentor, Martha Angus would’ve said).
4) Rosen Round Ottoman. Because every room needs a good splash of color.
5) Demi Console Table. This is the perfect way to get another round piece (to play with the ottoman) into the room, without taking up too much space.
6) Iron Table Lamp... for a little industrial edge.
7) Hippo and T-Rex Zuny bookends. I put them on the sofa, because that’s just how I am.
Back in March, I was asked to (very quickly) design the Miller Lite VIP lounge for South By Southwest! With a small budget and an even smaller window of time, we went out in search of floor models that we could buy on the spot!
One moving van, two days and a lot of schlepping later (yes, we ate peanut butter cups for dinner) Journey and I completed a gorgeous, modern rustic lounge for Miller Lite, who loved the furniture so much, they decided to keep it for use at future events!
Buying floor models is a great way to get instant gratification (weekend warriors, I’m talking to you!) and to save a few bucks in the process. Want to make it easier? Many of our awesome sellers on Trove Market put of floor models on a regular basis—so you can pre-shop, before you go out to schlep!
