Green Tax - an eye wash in the name of controlling #pollution.
An RTI revelaed that Rs787crore collected from truck owners in the name of #GreenTax in year 2017 alone. None of which was spent on controlling pollution levels.The hard earned money of the truck owners is lying idle since over 2 years and the very people who paid the tax are being #BANNED entry to Delhi. #Delhi_Government stepped up action against #over-loaded _trucks of all sizes, entering Delhi.The drive began on Friday and checks are being carried out #between_8 p.m._and _4 a.m.The Transport department is checking all the #border points and charging a fine of #Rs.4000/- for every extra ton over the permissible limit.

The United Petroleum Front (UPF) announces a 24-hour closure of #Petrol pumps from Oct 12 midnight. Issues:
Oil Marketing Companies have not resolved pending issues and fulfilled demands which were earlier agreed on November 4, 2017. #UPF also demands implementation of #GST on #petroleum products so that #onenationonerate can be fulfilled to benefit consumers.

Transporter/ Goods Transport Agent (GTA) is exempt from GST compliance. Even if you have a GST number, its advisable to surrender it at the earliest.
Here is why:
1. Input tax credit (ITC) is not available to the GTA.
2. GST is to be paid by the consignor/ee under reverse charge mechanism (RCM). GST rate for transport is 5% of total freight.
3. The input available for credit under GST is only 18.5% of total input cost. Fuel and tolls, the biggest contributors to cost (and having the highest tax slab) have been left out completely.

So its a rather expensive idea to retain the #GST number for a #GTA.

e-way bill to be implemented from 1st October 2017
Though the e-way bill has received a lot of criticism from the road transport sector, it is set to be implemented from 1st October 2017.
