The One

The good doctor had many enemies. Dr. Julio von Thunderkraut, her long-time professional rival and occasional colleague. Rad Roxy and Captain Sidekick from that ridiculous anti-villain group with the ever-changing acronym. Lisa Smeltfee at the Paper Airplane Gazette who still refused to run her want ads for research fellows and/or subjects. The various governments and tribunals that had dared to charge (let alone convict!) her of "crimes against the universe and sanity in general and the space/time continuum in particular". Then, of course, there was whichever one of her neighbors seemingly burnt microwave popcorn and fish every morning. Each a good, worthy nemesis in their own way. But none of them were the nemesis. The Archenemy. The Huge Headache. Le Grand Fromage. That singular honor had only and would only ever belong to one person. Not a fellow mad scientist undermining/stealing her research. Not a politician or CEO trying to cut ties/funding. Not a costumed nuisance perpetually foiling plots. Not a snooty saleswoman at the Gazette. Nope. Of all the powerful, wealthy, heroic, and/or genius adversaries out there to choose from, Dr. Unsleepable's greatest enemy was some dummy freelancer named Craig Dora who made some dismissive remark she didn't even fully remember anymore. But maybe that's the point. They may not be what you expected, but you don't have a say in who turns out to be "The One."
