Violation were a forgotten Seventies heavy metal group from the Bay Area who could have given Di'Anno-era Maiden a run for their money. Their recorded material has been excavated and given a new lease on life in the form of Underground Metal Vault Chapter 1: The Anthology, which will be released on September 18th by Ripple Music.

Maybe it's the emphasis on mid-paced chord progressions, or maybe it's Ricardo Baum's Jaz Coleman-ish vocals - but I don't think I've heard any band make the connection between classic heavy metal and Eighties goth rock/post-punk as explicitly as The Night Eternal. Their third album Cold Velvet will be released on August 21st by Metal Blade Records.
