FELLOW IMMORTAL BELOVED HATER HELLO?? I hate how one-dimensional their Beethoven is. He's just grumpy angry sad man with NO depth, they have all the pitfalls of "he's the greatest genius etc etc" not to MENTION putting Johanna of all people as the love interest. oh my god. also the sound direction is awful. they kept playing the same slow movement for every sad scene and it's like??? Beethoven wrote a lot of music, can't you use something else?? You could probably use a different piece for every scene and it would work.
I think my favorite depiction of Beethoven is in the BBC's adaptation of the first rehearsal of Eroica. They do a fantastic job depicting his wry, sarcastic sense of humor (Beethoven laughing and smiling? more likely than you may think.), and I really like how they show him both interacting with the nobility, as well as sitting down to chat about politics with the musicians during break. It really emphasizes Beethoven's values of class equality! omg and his interactions with Reiss make me DIE laughing. Also all the instruments are period accurate <33
HAYYYYY YES that movie is so bum. the plotline does sound interestin so it kinda pulls you in . and i knew it had the best score out of all beethoven movies, so i assumed its gonna be peak
first thing first, this might be a bad opinion idc But when there is a movie about a historical person or any current real person for that matter, i really really really wish they would cast someone similar lookin or make it seem that way. ik there has been a lot of fight abt raceswapping in movies or so , and i dont mind it on fictional storylines cus it doesnt change a thing. but when its some real ID person with a birth certificate out there .. you really expect them to look like the person theyre portraying. so i can confidently say that .. as much as i DO like gary oldman and think hes a fantastical extraordinaru actor, he seemed off as a beethoven to me?😭😭 lookwise obvs. when someone chooses a Beethoven actor, i want them To keep the rounded face and square jaw, and his cute lil nose (im insane sorrey) and forehead. and MOST IMPORTANTLY HIS HAIR. UGH like its crucial that it is wild and thick.
and its possible bcs he doesnt have distinct features hard to find in others. he looks like ur averance german unc 🩷 (obviously 959393 better and more perfect and complex)

now abt portrayal, as you said it.. it felt VERY bland. we are talking about Beethoven. he literally is the opposite of just one emotion. he had too many and he swapped them constantly. the Johanna plotline would prob make him crawl out of the ground himself Thank GOD he cant witness this😭 now that you say it , i cant recall one good thing from it OMG? erhmzz the actresses for the girls were beautiful .That i remember 🤣 but even if i couldnt see Gary as Beethoven, my ass too parasocial to see him kiss them so long . when he kisses Therese or in the carriage grah im closin my eyes
THE EROICA by BBC is such a good ONE ughhh I LOVE IT TOOO theres just sum so crispy abt the audio and irs also very much pleasin to look at . i liked the actor for beethoven. maybe only the light eyes took me out a bitt. his deliveries are so good and his humour is present cus youre so right, people do tend to forget he was capable of funsies and jokies he COULD be silly :,( beethoven always had been very political I love that he never was ashamed to express his beliefs and tries to go further than class. to think his symphony is now the anthem of a whole continent that stands on the belief of freedom ooh Ludwig How famous you will always bee.
the ries actor had me CRYIN he had that look in his eyes like a forgotten wet chip in ketchup . i can still hear that line "dont you see im in a conversation with a lady? youre unforgivably stupid , ries!! 😡😡"" not too much on ries NOW!! he was doin his best I laughed even at the end with "I think the sister is prettier" like alr They should have made a longer longer movie.
sorry i went off so bad. just my thoughts hihi. anyway so happy to see someone who Gets IT😖 its a tragedy on its own that Ludwig. VAN beethoven HIMSELF has no good movie? well most composers dont have(except yk who) , and it makes me very very angry They cant see proper potential or WHAT.
