Superlatives: 4, 5, 11, 12, and 13 :)
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“Jasper Jordan7:59 pm:oh jesus christ. there would be casualties. furniture. walls. potentially lasting scars. i pray for this nightly.”
because aren’t we all jasper? (i got a lot of #wearejasper comments, and i was so into it.)
5: What part was hardest to write?
Oh, the end, always. I always want to wrap things up nicely but not in a way that’s tied up too neatly. I’m also picky about formulaic endings. Some authors do the thing where all their fics end like:
“Clarke figured she’d be happy if they were together forever.
Like, that’s cute once or twice, but it’s also a copout if you do it every time, and soooo many people do that exact two-sentence formula. Like I said, I’m just incredibly picky.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
I just liked that I was able to step away from writing truly terrible Harry Potter fanfiction for an 8 year hiatus and come back with stuff that didn’t suck. Like, the stuff I wrote when I was a kid was so bad, it was actually featured on a blog dedicated to bad fanfic, I swear to God. So when this got so much positive feedback, naturally, I was thrilled.
Also, I spend a lot of time writing fiction fiction, and I’m pretty strict about how I write that. Perfect grammar, tight sentence structure, no adverbs, and no big self-insertion-y things. For this, though, I just poured weird parts of my own life/personality into it, and that was totally okay. Key examples:
unknowingly wriggling cold feet under people
referring to people as Some Kind of Profanity+Name (my least favorite person in the world is called Fuckhead Philip)
the phrase “feels city, bitch”
12: What do you like least about this fic?
Flip side of the coin from #11. I love that Superlatives got a ton of positive feedback, but the downside of that is, I got so excited that I mentioned it to my mom. Which led to her reading it. And one of my aunts. And truly, they’re adorable, and they love it, so I appreciate that. But yeah, my least favorite thing is that two very important women in my life have read a story I wrote that is full of profanity and climaxes (pun intended) with drunken sex.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I didn’t really listen to anything, because if I’m gonna get a character’s voice in my head, I need to literally be able to hear it. And I’ve been told that my characterization is pretty good, so I stick with that! Idk about music to accompany the story, but if I can recommend a super great Bellarke playlist in general, allow me to recommend this one. It’s perfect for their canon relationship. Not so much for modern AUs, obvs, but God, it’s just so fucking good. (Confession: I have this playlist on my phone, and I tacked on ‘weight of us’ by sanders bohlke, bc that seemed perfect too.)
(does anyone else feel incredibly weird about the fact that i wrote superlatives almost a year ago? what the fuck. a YEAR)
