DERVISH knows he’s in for a long night when grubbs wakes himself up with a nightmare. he’s noticed his niece and nephew always seem to get the worst nightmares on the same night, something to do with their twin telepathy they’d all joked about. it’s why he sends grubbs to the kitchen with the order to make some toast and get all the things for hot cocoa while he fetched ray.
she’s tossing and turning when he reaches her room, moaning incomprehensible words. he shakes her gently, keeping his voice low and even despite the way his heart aches. if he could do anything to take away his niece’s and nephew’s pain. “ray. rachel. wake up. it’s okay, you’re safe. you’re in carcerry vale, and you’re safe here. nothing will hurt you here.”
