It's been six years since our last visit to Black Acre. It was the first of our Father's Day beercations. We'd attended a wedding in Aurora and D suggested we could spend the next day in Indy doing whatever I wanted. He he he he....
Our very first stop at Black Acre was memorable. First, because it was my introduction to Berlinerweisse with woodruff beer syrup but mostly because of Trulock. The bar staff were telling me about a small batch Belgian beer they'd just released and the namesake brewer walked in. He was so excited and we talked. I took away a couple of 750ml bottles and always regretted not getting more.
Walking in this time I immediately noticed they'd expanded into what was the Apple Store next door and they'd filled the gorgeously moody space with mid century America furniture. I also noticed Trulock's Revenge on tap! Was just beginning to enjoy its traditional rich tripel character when THE Man himself walked in. It was fun catching up.
I reminded him of meeting in 2015 and he said you know this is the first time he'd brewed Trulocks since then! He said he had one 1.5litre bottle at their beergarten a few blocks away and he'd go get it for me. How generous! We drove and picked it up ourselves and I was amazed this huge bottle of high gravity beer was only $12.99. Just now noticed it's mislabeled 500ml.
Oops I did it again. I noticed this bottle of saison with the wicked cool name Barn Mischief and the word FUNK on it in the cold case. I asked the bartender but she hadn't had it. I asked Trulock if it was really funky. He shrugged and said it was but was more matter of fact than enthusiastic. I bought two and now wish I'd bought a dozen!
