Author’s Note:
The writing came second to the drawing last minute. There’s NO way I struggled more drawing Ed’s face than I did drawing the hands. (Additional note: if anyone wants the drawing with any specific shades for the hands… just let me know.)
Also, massive appreciation for @singtomyheart in helping me figure out a few elements in my drawing.
Anyways, time to go back into hiding!
“Why are you touching my face?” Ed asked, his face scrunching up from the contact. Every day, he had come to expect something new from you. Mostly something strange.
“It’s my responsibility to ensure that the face I’m holding,” you said, then squished his cheeks and shook his head a bit, “is perfectly intact.”
“Is this even necessary?”
“When have I ever done something completely unnecessary? I’m optimal, trust me.”
Ed looked utterly unamused as his hands reached to clasp your wrists firmly. “I’d list it all out, but then it would be your daily routine.”
“Oh, so you’re saying I love wasting time?”
“Not exactly– keep up.”
What was that supposed to mean!? With a frown, you pinched at his cheeks, “Let me have this one thing.”
“One of many?”
“Smooth.” You spoke, before suddenly releasing his face and taking a step back.
That wasn’t what he quite expected. The sudden loss of contact made him raise his brow, “Giving up already?”
“Tactical retreat. As I said, I’m perfectly optimal.”
"That implies there wasn't anything 'optimal' about holding my face in the first place," Ed commented as he crossed his arms over his chest with a smug expression.
"Counterpoint, that implies talking to you isn't an efficient use of time either!"
"I doubt that's how it works."
"Then your argument is invalid too, then."
The two of you stared at each other in complete silence before Ed sighed in resignation. He approached, took your wrists in his grasp, and brought your hands to his face, "Fine. You win whatever that was."
"See, wasn't that easy?"

You’ve probably been on the phone with Ed for the last two hours. Truth be told? He stopped listening about thirty minutes ago, “Mhm, whatever you’re saying.” He grumbled as he nodded along to your words.
“Are you even listening?”
“Of course I am, you’ve been holding up my line for the last two hours of my life.”
“So, you know what I just asked you?”
He fell silent at that line of questioning. You could immediately tell he wasn’t keeping up with what you were saying, but could you really blame him? Still, you were going to take the opportunity to tease him a bit, “So, you would fight a cactus then? Bare fists and all?”
“I didn’t agree to that.”
“Of course you did, you did say “Mhm” after all in response to my question. That’s close to verbal confirmation.”
“Now you’re just grasping at straws.”
“Am I?”
You could almost envision the look of disappointment he had on the other side of the phone. You shuffled around a bit in bed as you planned your next move, “You should stop by, and today.”
The line went eerily silent after you asked the question, not even the usual commotion of his usual hangout spots, “You’re really asking me that? Thought you got plenty of my company yesterday?”
“You left after thirty minutes.”
“I’ve got things to do.”
“Things that don’t involve me…? I get you’re busy— but think about it!”
He went quiet for a few seconds, though he was certainly pretending to think as he simply answered: “No.”
“Y’know, it kinda sounds like you don’t like visiting.”
“Who says I don’t?” He calmly responded. Well, at least he didn’t disagree with you for the fun of it, but knowing he doesn’t mind spending time with you certainly made your heart rate go up significantly.
“Awe, so you do like spending time with me?”
“Whatever.”
“Like I said,” You paused to let the statement linger in the air for a bit, “I’m aware of your schedule— but since I’ve been on the phone with you for the last two hours— you have plenty of time to come over. If something comes up, you’re always free to go, I won’t stop you.”
You were practically pleading at this point, but it was clear he still wasn’t budging. With a sigh, you began to idly speak, “I guess I’ll sit in my bed. Alone and cold.”
“…What are you doing?”
“—With no one to cuddle with!”
He went silent, probably for the tenth time in your whole conversation, before you could hear faint rustling, “Shut it. I’m on my way.”
Yeah, you were feeling better already.
