Mere Exposure Effect
After repeated exposure to something it becomes familiar, and even if it’s false or bad, it can come to be viewed as true or acceptable - even favorable, simply because it feels familiar.
Across five experiments with some 200 participants, researchers found that reading a statement three times, as opposed to just once, made people significantly more likely to recall it as valid later on. This “truth effect” occurred regardless of whether the source was explicitly identified to the reader as untrustworthy.
