Daenerys is not the hero and she does not deserve better.
She had the highest body count of of all GOT characters. She racked almost all of it up in one day. A character that is responsible for such carnage is not heroic. Nor does she deserve a happy ending. Even the Night King took thousands of years to build up his army.
