A poem about love, inspired by my initial infatuation with my boyfriend. The truth is, I don’t know much about truly loving someone. It requires more strength, vulnerability and effort that I realized. As well as self analysis, willingness to be humble to your true emotions, willingness to be wrong, and to tell him when he’s wrong (not easy when you want to “keep the peace” and be “liked”), and being willingly transparent with your thoughts, loyalty, emotions, dreams, desires, past, present and future. I’m learning that you need to develop consistent patience with your self and your lover because you’re both damaged people. We all want someone to treat us “perfectly” (according to our definition of perfection) while we ourselves are far from healed. I thought I understood that it’s about learning to love someone, rather than seeking out someone who will love you so you don’t have to feel your own pain. But a year and a half later I’m still grappling with this. Real Love from God’s perspective is so different to the bartering systems we have learned to call love. I have/am learning a lot about love in this process, just not in the way I anticipated- which isn’t a bad thing.

why is love such a scary, weird, confusing, crazy rollercoaster of emotions?
like, we have no control over it. You can’t choose who you love, then you have the danger of falling more and more for that person, once that person goes and dates someone else, your heart chatters, with no reason but the fact you fell in love. You can choose to confess your feelings, but you’ll either be too scared, or you do tell them and they don't like you back. But on the rare occasion, they do like you back, you’ll go out, and you’ll live happily ever after, right? wrong.
You have the chance that the person falls outta love, you have the chance that person wasn't really in love in the first place, or they cheat on you or they cheat on someone with you.
Now let's talk about falling in love, its a scary feeling. It can cause you to physically be like “noooo, no no no” specifically, and more likely, when you've been in a relationship before. You are scared of falling, in fear of getting your heartbroken. But what if you've not been in love before? falling in love is probably scarier, you don't really know what's happening, what the feeling is. It can cause you to feel sick. Maybe you're in a relationship cause you like the person and you think you’re in love, but halfway into the relationship you officially fall in love slowly, for me that's the scariest. You don't know if you’re falling in or out of love. In some cases, some folk feel this and either distance themselves from the person and maybe even dump them.
People always say love is great, make it sound easy, make the feeling of falling in love sound like the best thing ever, but is it really?
So many have said this to me and I guess either I wasn’t listening or I just wasn’t ready to accept it. . . . “Before you can expect anyone else to come into your life and love you, you have to love yourself.” . . . You can’t hope that someone will fill the void. If by chance they come when you’re still empty, then there will never be enough of you to give back to them and neither of you will be happy. Until you can seal the lid on self-love, and forget all the ones you ever hoped for before... I mean TRULY let go. Don’t do it for them. I have idolized P!nk since I was a little girl. I own every single album she’s ever released. I know 90% of her songs by heart. Without knowing, she’s helped me through some pretty difficult shit. She’s an incredible human being, and never ceases to amaze me with her words and actions. My dream came true 5 years ago when I saw her in concert, front and center. I cried the second she shot out of that stage. One of the best days of my life was seeing her sing and preform the very songs I’ve belted out for years. And, in just 44 days, I will be watching her preform again. Her newest album is in my top favorites of hers.
