“I’m going to go. I have to go. Everyone in NHS has to go,” She said with a surprising amount of authority, considering that she was lying on the floor of an empty classroom. “Don’t make some crack about them being happier if I wasn’t there it doesn’t matter because I am supposed to go. I have to.”

jack  frowned ,  entering  the  classroom  and  taking  a  seat  on  the  floor  with  verity.  in  all  his  time  of  pushing  her  around ,  he  has  never  seen  her  like  this.  if  she  was  in  any  other  mood ,  he  would  crack  some  stupid  joke  or  make  fun  of  her ,  but  something  in  jack’s  heart  told  him  she  needed  some  serious  help.

“ verity ,  i’m  serious.  you  looked  stressed  as  it  is ,  and  trying  to  force  yourself  to  some  stupid  party  isn’t  going  to  help  you.  if  you’re  not  a  party  person ,  that’s  okay.  we  can  go  to  my  house  and  watch  movies  or  something.  don’t  force  yourself  to  go  to  this  because  you  think  you  have  to. ”

Verity adjusted her sweater carefully before entering the cockpit. She had showered and brushed her hair, but regardless, tell tale signs of what she had done last night remained. “Morning,” She said softly, sitting in the co-pilot seat.

Katherine piloted idly, feeling at home behind the yoke of her sister’s ship. Flying she could do. She could bob and weave around enemy fire, but she was much less adept at navigating complications on the ground.

Katherine didn’t like Kara. She was very rough-and-tumble, and quick to anger, too. A figure like that around her sister...

“Morning.” She glanced up at Verity when she arrived and then again when she sat down, noticing the dark purple spots around her neck. Her heart began to pound and her chest got tight, and she suddenly felt very, very eager for that rematch with the Valkyrie.

“Are you okay?”

Ah, good. The stranger was awake. That meant she didn’t have to waste time waiting for her to wake up. For a Doctor, she’s not that patient. Though thinking straight with a banged up head was gonna cause some problems. It always made it a little more difficult. Still, she’d push through it and they’d come out okay. 

❝ Not sure. My guess? The dungeons of someone who doesn’t like us. ❞   

It was vague but she didn’t have any answers right now. She could barely remember what happened before she ended up here. It’d come back in time. Most times, though, she was locked up because someone didn’t like her arrival here, or because she said something to anger them. And she’s pretty sure it wasn’t the latter. Perhaps she had been watched.

Verity Watson had made a mistake. It was too late to fix it, though; the ghoul girls were already on their way to the old mansion. They didn’t have another window to film there, and she felt bad about the putting this particular visit off for a season as the fans were so excited for it. It was in the middle of tech week; she had just gotten off an incredibly long day; she was exhausted. Head against the window, she was half asleep, espresso shot in the cup holder next to her ready to go.

“Hey, beanpole.”

Katherine had heard Verity’s stories of tech week, the legendary gauntlet run by performers, and had seen a sprinkling of its effect on her friend at work. But never had she seen such strong symptoms at about the least opportune time she could think of.

She had let her snooze on the way to the mansion, but now night was falling and they had a show to shoot. Katherine nudged her friend’s shoulder again. “We’re ready to go.”

“By the looks of it, we got the last sleeper car.” Katherine tucked away her suitcase in the overhead compartment and plopped her backpack down on the cot. Another cot for Verity sat at the ready on the other side. Katherine glanced at it and grimaced. “I’m not sure that bed is tall enough for you.”

She dug in her backpack for one of the three novels she was planning to read on the way. She had done all her research for the investigation waiting for them, so now she could kick back with a little Dan Brown and take it easy.

“Well, I’m excited to see what you do with it.” Katherine brought the two mugs of tea to the table and sat down, offering the actor her mug. Frankly, it was comforting to talk to someone else new to this industry, someone who wasn’t jaded or holier-than-thou or condescending. 

She took a sip of the tea and then said, “You know, I really didn’t want to ask this the first time we met, but I would really love to know what excites you about the role. What do you respond to?”
