“Akamatsu-san? Is this a recurring problem?”

“Oh geez, when I think more about it... I don’t think it happens enough for it to be a ‘recurring problem’. I’m not popular like some popstars or idols are, but I definitely do get some strange letters and similar stuff after some of my concerts. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about though. But... thank you for worrying about me, Saihara-kun! I promise I’ll be fine!”

“Well...” Sai, in the meanwhile, was reviewing the documents detailing the case. An attempted murder case that the brothers are almost very close to solving; they had a very ideal suspect in mind who, if found guilty of trying to murder their intended victim: would make all the pieces of this case fit together.

But: motive. That’s what was also getting Sai stuck, too. “Well...same here, probably. I’ve been re-reading the case files, trying to see what the motive would have been for the suspect to attempt killing his neighbor? I mean, everyone else in the neighborhood claimed they got along pretty well...until the apparent argument they got into last night.”

“But...could you really make someone that angry to the point they’d try to kill you?”

"Akamatsu-san!" he called out as he approached her. His smile was warm. Shuichi offered two wrapped presents to her. The slightly larger one contained an assortment of hair accessories that reminded him of her, while the smaller contained music note earrings. "Happy birthday!"

“Saihara-kun!” A brief wave of confusion washed over her features, before he presented her with the two gifts, her confused face melting into one of pure joy as she grinned, eagerly taking both in her hands. “You didn’t have to get me anything...” she reminded him, but it was rude not to open things, right? Unsure of what to open first, she eyed them. The best things came in small packages, right? She’d save that for last then! Instead, she unwrapped the larger one, the array of cute hair pins and otherwise packaged together nicely. 

Next was the smaller one, she’d wait to give her proper thanks afterwards, setting aside the hairpins and quickly but gently opening up the other as she eagerly tore through it to the packaging. She lifted up the lid to reveal two matching music notes, sparkling in the light as she admired them. Kaede wasn’t sure her smile could get any bigger before matching Saihara’s gaze again as he looked on. “Saihara-kun...” Kaede started, moving to briefly encircle her arms around him in a hug, touched by his thoughtfulness and how much he knew of her. Really, she couldn’t be luckier.

“Thank you.”

"Akamatsu-san!" he called out, once they were alone. Shuichi smiled warmly, though the faintest of blushes settled upon his cheeks. "I wanted to give this to you," he explained, holding out a box containing handmade chocolates shaped like pianos. They were a bit messy, but he poured a great amount of energy into them, "Happy White Day, Akamatsu-san."

“Saihara-kun! Thank you so much!”, she said while taking the box off from his hands. After looking inside it, she was even more excited. This wasn’t only a present from Shuichi, the boy she really liked, he also went through the trouble to make chocolates for her. And not any chocolates, they were shaped like a piano too! “They look amazing! It’s almost a waste to eat them, but I’m too curious to find out how they will taste too! I didn’t know you knew how to make chocolates! You’re amazing, Saihara-kun! I wish I was as skilled like you in the kitchen, hehe...” With flushed cheeks she approached him to give him a small peck on his cheek. “Thank you again, I’m really happy!”
