Tails: You, too, don’t have a family? Gilgamesh: I’m homeless. But who cares?
Tails: Do you ever wish things had been different?
Gilgamesh lay back against, gaze fixed on the stars.
Gilgamesh: Wishing changes nothing.
Tails: Maybe not. But sometimes it helps to say it out loud.
Gilgamesh was quiet for so long that Tails thought he wouldn’t answer.
Gilgamesh: There are things… I might have wanted.
Tails turned his head, surprised but careful not to interrupt.
Gilgamesh: A place worth returning to. People worth staying for.
Tails’ expression softened.
Tails: You can still have that.
Gilgamesh gave a faint, sceptical huff.
He looked up at the stars again.
Tails: You already have someone who wants you around.
Gilgamesh closed his eyes for a moment.
Tails: You’ve probably had to endure a lot by yourself......
Gilgamesh: That was simply how things were.
Tails: Doesn’t mean it had to feel nice.
Tails: No. I just… don’t want you to be alone if you don’t have to be.
Gilgamesh looked back ahead, but his voice lost some of its edge.
Gilgamesh: You are strangely persistent.
Gilgamesh: …Stay, if you wish.
Tails: …Do you always come here alone?
Gilgamesh: When noise becomes tiresome, yes.
Tails: Sonic does that too…
Tails looked back up at the stars.
The way Gilgamesh crossed his arms.
The way he answered shortly.
Even the quiet confidence in his voice—
It all reminded him of Sonic somehow.
Not exactly alike.
But close enough that it made his chest ache.
Tails: You really like stargazing, huh?
Gilgamesh: The stars do not lie.
Tails: …That sounds lonely.
Gilgamesh was silent for a moment.
Tails: Are you thinking about someone you’ll never see again?
Gilgamesh: Why is that? Even if that person no longer exists…I will remember everything.
The way he spoke—it sounded less like a king…and more like someone trying very hard not to forget.
Tails: You like city sightseeing too?
Tails: You like being alone?
Tails: …You still miss the people you lost?
Somehow…that honesty hurt more than anything dramatic.
Tails looked down at his hands.
He wished he knew what to say.
He was good with machines, calculations, inventions—but none of those could fix the sadness sitting beside him.
And that made him feel helpless.
Syaoran’s words echoed quietly inside his mind.
“Just being by Sonic’s side is enough to tell him he’s not alone.”
Tails slowly looked at Gilgamesh again. The king still watched the stars silently. Still carrying things too heavy to say aloud.
Tails: (Maybe… I don’t need to save him. Maybe being here matters too....)
So instead of asking another question, Tails quietly scooted a little closer and sat beside him in silence. Gilgamesh noticed. A small glance.
Then—very faintly—he smiled.
#tsofph Season 11(Chapter2 Shadow Path)
Tails noticed small wildflowers growing near the edge of the field. He carefully picked a few of them. Not really knowing why. Maybe because the place felt lonely. Maybe because Gilgamesh looked lonely, too.
Gilgamesh looked over. Tails awkwardly held out the flowers.
Tails: These were growing nearby, so… I thought maybe…
For a second, Gilgamesh simply stared. Then his expression softened slightly. Very slightly. He accepted them carefully. Like something fragile.
Gilgamesh: …Thanks, Tails.
Silence. Tails froze. His ears twitched. That voice—That simple way of saying his name—It sounded exactly like Sonic. Not just the tone. But the warmth behind it. The trust. Like he was an equal standing beside him. A partner. Not someone smaller. Not someone weak. And suddenly—Tails’ vision blurred. A tear slipped down his cheek before he even realized it. Gilgamesh blinked. Actually startled.
Tails quickly rubbed his eyes.
Tails: S-Sorry—I didn’t mean to—
Another tear escaped anyway. Gilgamesh looked completely caught off guard now.
Gilgamesh: Did I say something strange?
Gilgamesh reached out awkwardly and placed a hand on Tails’ hand. Careful. Smiles. Gentle.
Gilgamesh: …Is that truly enough to make you cry?
Tails: Maybe I’m just emotional today…
Gilgamesh: Then listen carefully, Tails. You are not “just” Sonic’s partner. You are someone important, too.
Tails’ eyes widened slightly. And somehow—those words hurt and healed at the same time. So he lowered his head a little—trying not to cry again. While Gilgamesh sat beside him quietly…still holding the flowers Tails gave him like a treasure.
