Warming up - a Tsubakumen oneshot
The world was a blur. Tsubaki tried looking at the clock but couldn’t make out the time since she was still half asleep. She was laying on her futon in the house she shared with Hakumen. She could hear him working in the kitchen. Other than cutting things extremely well the only thing he could properly do in a kitchen is warm something up. Though he was trying his best to learn since she was sick.
“You’re awake.” he said as he walked into the room, bowl of soup in hand.
“Yeah…” she stammered a weak response.
He wasted no time propping her up on extra pillows. As he started to feed her she could do nothing but stare at his faceplate. She knew he couldn’t see her there but keeping eye contact with any of his actual eyes felt too strange for her.
When he was done he took her temperature and tucked her back in. There was still time before her sponge bath so he just stood near her and stared off into the distance.
Tsubaki however couldn’t sleep. She kept staring at him, fevered thoughts clouding her mind. She knew he loved her, at least she thought she did. He definitely cared for her but there was always a gap between them. It made her feel strange. Like he did love her but not in the way she loved him.
Looking at him with sadness in her eyes she forgot he could see her. Hakumen could see how she felt but there wasn’t much he could do. Except one thing.
Seeing him approach and pick her up with her blanket, Tsubaki knew what was about to happen. He only did this a few times before. Hakumen was usually pretty cold but he could focus his magatama to heat himself up. The problem was it was so powerful if he lost concentration he could burn skin off. While she did want to experience it more often she could understand him not wanting to risk her coming to harm.
He sat down on the floor and put her in his lap. She jerked away with the small yelp as she came into contact with the cold armor. Hakumen slowed his breathing and focused. She could feel the armor warm up. He wrapped his arms around her stomach and brought her closer. It was incredibly comforting for her, especially while sick. He leaned forward to put his faceplate against her cheek. Tsubaki didn’t want to get too handsy so as to not break his concentration but she did bring a hand up to the other side of his faceplate.
Feeling him so close cemented a thought in her mind. Maybe she wouldn’t get normal kisses like other girls but she knew he loved her just as much as she loved him.
