A drabble I wrote for someone on my servamp blog Tsu/Yumi & Wingmen
"Yumi-chan deserves flowers." Tsurugi said one day, seemingly out of the blue. Jun looked up just barely from his book. He was quite used to Tsurugi's random outburst, and most of them wouldn't even catch his attention enough for that, but now he was quite interested. It wasn't news to him that Tsurugi had feelings for their teammate, but Tsurugi acting upon it, that was news to him. "Oh really? Why does he need flowers?" He asked. "Because he does, let's go." Tsurugi said, immediately jumping up and pulling Jun with him. Jun just sighed, knowing well by now that you can't deny Tsurugi when he has a plan.
And he did indeed, have a plan. He was set on showing Yumi his love. He just... didn't exactly know how to do that. But after about a week of romance movies, he'd decided he knew how dating worked. So, he drug Jun to the store. And then he drug Jun all the way to Yumi's apartment, bouquet of flowers in hand. Not roses, he had initially wanted to buy roses, and Jun had suggested them, but all the women in his romance movies got roses, and Yumi was not everyone else.
"Why are you here on my day off?" Was Yumi's response as soon as he opened the door, Tsurugi and Jun quickly let themselves inside, well used to Yumi's warm welcomes. "Juni-chan and I wanted to bring you something." Tsurugi said quickly, gesturing at the flowers Jun was still holding. "You did, did you?" Yumi asked, cocking an eye brow. He didn't take the flowers from Jun, instead folding his arms across his chest. "And where, exactly, did that come from?" "Juni-chan thought you deserved something nice, is all." Tsurugi said eagerly. "You've worked really hard." Jun nodded in agreement, just following Tsurugi's lead. He expected, at some point, for Tsurugi to veer off into a more romantic conversation. But that didn't happen. They sat, and talked, Yumi sitting in the corner of the room on a chair, across from Tsurugi and Jun on the sofa. All of Yumi's responses were sharp and short, and it left Tsurugi feeling very confused as to why he wasn't impressed or even happy with his gift.
So Tsurugi decided to try again. He had decided that Jun was a terrible wingman, and he needed someone Yumi couldn't be annoyed with to help him out. He knew just the man. He went over the night before. They spent all day on the floor surrounded by glitter and markers. Jun even arranged for Yumi to come by. It was all perfectly planned, it was the execution he was worried about. Yumi should've been here already, and it was really starting to get to Tsurugi. "Do you think my plan is too forward, Taku?" Tsurugi asked, almost defeated. He had been planning this all night, even coaching Taku to help him say it, but now he felt like backing out. That was when the door opened, and Yumi let himself in. Tsurugi was ready to go welcome him, but as he moved to get up, the card he made was taken from his hands. Taku took the card he had made with Tsurugi and ran to Yumi, holding it out and repeating the card's words as Tsurugi taught him. "I love you papa Yumi!!" He said, causing Yumi to swoop him up in his arms and kiss his cheek, repeating the sentiment. Tsurugi gasped at Taku, mouthing that he was a traitor as soon as Yumi turned his back.
Tsurugi was near his wits end with this. Every idea he had seemed to fail, and he couldn't for the life of him figure out why. Jun was also at his wits end. Not only did he have to witness both failures, and have to shoot down all of Tsurugi's worse ideas, but now he had to listen to him whine about it. They were back where this idea of Tsurugi's had started, a small break room that really only they ever used anyway. Jun, reading a book quietly, Tsurugi laid out on a couch with his feet in Jun's lap, ranting away. Tsurugi didn't notice Yumi standing in the doorway, but Jun did. "So, why exactly do you think you failed, Tsurugi?" Jun asked, calmly. "I don't know, obviously. I mean, it seems like every time I try to tell Yumi-chan I love him, someone else steals it." Tsurugi made sure to glare at Jun as he spoke.
"That's fair. Yumi, do you have any clue why he's been failing?" At this point, Yumi had come up to stand behind the couch and Tsurugi. "Well, let's see..." He mused, wrapping his arms around Tsurugi. "Maybe because you didn't tell me yourself?" He said, resting his head on Tsurugi's shoulder.
"Oh." Was Tsurugi's only response. Yumi continued on, "You nearly had me convinced it was Jun who was into me." Tsurugi gasped scandalously. "I would fight him." Yumi laughed softly, kissing Tsurugi on the cheek. "You're taking me out tomorrow at 8." He said, before turning and heading to the door. Tsurugi jumped up. "Wait! I'm not paying!!" He called after him, but still, the stupid smile he wore was unmistakeable.
