Sooo....

We have an appt on Friday to talk to the fertility Dr about our options.

#1 We're on the cancellation list for my wife to do the free IVF cycle through him. Don't have an eta.

#2 We want to know that if we need to go to the US (or our last option, #4 Europe) for her IVF cycle if he will do the monitoring (for free?). And then my monitoring to transfer.

#3 If we go through with embryo adoption, we will likely do the cycle at the donors clinic to avoid shipping costs so again, would he do the monitoring.

Let's hope we get some good news. We're antsy to plan things out and need to know what he's on board with. Once we know what he will do, we can plan our back up plans and get a timeline/cost plan.

It's killing me that we have to do NOTHING for months while just...waiting. The pregnancy announcements are all over Facebook and Christmas means they will keep coming. We went to a cousins baby shower and it hurt so very much.

It's triplets! Sorta

Day 3 post retrieval. 1 of the fertilized embryos from day 1 didn't develop properly, but 1 of the 4 from the "lazy" group completely caught up. So 6 still.

Arrived at 0830, did pre-transfer acupuncture; it was nice but I don't think I'd do it again. Then down to the transfer room. Embryologist said 6 good embryos and was impressed that it was 42 year old eggs. We hadn't decided how many to transfer and she suggested 2 based on MY age but said she would ask another embryologist.

Second embryologist checked and said at age 42, they rarely have 6 good embryos as an option so there's no "standard" on what to do. She said maybe 3 since they are 50% or more likely to not survive to day 5.

Then dr comes in, he says definitely 2 or 3! Not helpful. He's a very friendly chatty dr and reiterated there is no standard on what to do in this situation. He said with 42 year old eggs, more likely to have issues and not implant or survive the next few days, but also its not usual to have 6 good looking ones so "stats" don't count for much, so it was up to us.

After a bit of a painful speculum and transfer, 3 little embabies are now inside, dueling it out for space.

Let's hope the strongest survives.

Oh and I'm just lucky enough that my progesterone is a little low. So 3 suppositories and the PIO. Then recheck on Friday. Let's hope that works.

What, what. In the butt!

First PIO injection done in my butt. Paramedic friend did this one so the wife could see that it won't make me cry cause I need her to continue them from now on. She's not excited.

As for the embryos:

14 confirmed retrieved

11 able to be ICSI'd

6 fertilized/developing as they should

4 haven't fertilized but haven't died

For those 4, they may just be lazy so they're checking on them in the AM. They say 1-2 may catch up so here's hoping. They're not GREAT numbers but again, my wife is 42 so we can't expect these eggs to act like they're 20.

The wife is a bit heartbroken about it; the cycle has been going amazing and everyone has been so happy and proud so with the hormones and discomfort, she's down.

Either way, the numbers aren't that bad for AVERAGE IVF cycles but they're kind of incredible for 42 year old eggs.

I love my wife.

Ultrasound and bloodwork, no sign of a follicle developing.  Main Dr is still on vacation and the one filling in won’t give me femara. The main doc made a note on my file that he wanted to meet the donor but it wasn’t a big deal in person, he said he was still content giving me meds/inducing a cycle. I guess she’s just covering her ass though cause she said she would think about giving it to me today but clearly decided against it.  Donor’s appointment isn’t until next friday though and she said she was going to wait til the main doc came back to prescribe the meds after meeting with the donor. I said I would be at 3 weeks past my period and she kind of fumbled. I understand covering your ass but my body clearly isn’t ovulating (and MULTIPLE notes say so in my file) so just give me the drugs. There’s record that he gave them to us for a few months and that we tried with the donor with his approval so I don’t know why she won’t just continue it! GRRRRRRR. So now I have to wait until Monday to get checked AGAIN and if I’m still not developing a follicle (ummm....like most cycles) she will consider giving me the prescription.  This c*nt however did decide to semi-threaten me though. She said if she did prescribe it that she would be discussing with the main doc and letting him know so they can cancel the cycle if they see fit. (basically threatening me not to take the meds and try with the donor without their approval). Like...she has so much attitude.

CD2-Ugh!

Period showed up yesterday at work. Fun! Not.

Went to the clinic to find out the main/regular doc is on vacation for a few weeks. No biggie, he has a backup doc that I’ve had one appt with and she’s not great but not horrible. I get a bad feeling.  She ended up going through our entire chart with a fine tooth comb and nit-picked everything. All the things the main doc and I have worked out in person (ie not written down) is discussed and she’s not happy.  She said my US shows its too early to see if I will ovulate on my own (rare but it does happen for me sometimes) so she didn’t give me a prescription for femara. We will reassess in a week (with her again) and maybe then if follicles aren’t growing I will get it. BUT she is hesitant because the donor STILL hasn’t made an appointment to meet with the doc and now he’s on vacay so it will take a couple weeks. I am getting so frustrated with the donor, it took him MONTHS to get his bloodwork done and he’s known he needed to book an appt for over a week and he didn’t even book it!.  She said if I am slowly ovulating (like this month...54 day cycle) then she won’t prescribe anything and just wait it out for the appointment (that has to be with the original doc) and for the regular doc to come back. I said I would probably lose out on the cycle and she said maybe not and left it at that. I’m so mad.  So it’s looking like it will be another wasted month/cycle thanks to the donor and this crappy doctor. I am so frustrated cause when I’m not on femara my cycles usually go between 40-90+ days which will only make the next cycle harder. I am seriously considering just buying sperm from the bank but it’s a few hundred dollars a vial! Ugh.  The wife knows I’m frustrated and hasn’t mentioned anything. The donor is a close friend of hers (we wanted someone our kids could get to know and he is a great guy...just clearly not reliable) and she chose him which is something I wanted for her. But I feel like she needs to step up and realize it’s not working out.

now it is a waiting game to see if AF will show before I get the cheapo pregnancy tests I ordered off eBay last month.  If yes, then there’s my answer, if no, then I am testing. 

In other news though I went to the dentist and likely that sensitive tooth will need a root canal so that sucks balls...on the plus (and the minus side) the dentist checked out all of the questionable teeth and made a list of all the work I need done ($3000 worth ouch) and then set up a payment plan so we can get it done asap.  So if I am prego then there’s a wrench thrown in that, but I think it can still get done.
