I’m just like. Enamored with the concept of Cecily. Originally she’s portrayed as an airhead noblewoman elite whose only purpose is to marry rich. She’s obsessed with Rupert- who she doesn’t even know, all she knows is that he is status and she needs to have status so that when he goes missing, she follows this widely outrageous lady knight (unheard of!) on a flying machine (also unheard of!) into a deadly forest (triple unheard of!) to rescue him for the chance to marry him and uphold the Old Way Values. All during this, she remains unaware of all the traditions she’s breaking by doing so. Only in the climax of her adventure does this controversial figure, Joan, reveal that everything they’ve been doing since they’ve left is Break Traditions and do every single thing she’s been raised thinking she can’t. For the first time in her life, she’s able to act with her desires in mind, and right now she desires to kick this dragon’s butt. She then goes on to fall madly in love with Joan, who contrasts Rupert in every single way- Joan is controversial, she has no family status, her reputation has been dragged through the mud, she’s a woman. And even though the TTP universe focuses on a gay relationship, acceptance of those relationships is very new. But because Joan saw her, and Joan believed in her she saw strength in Cecily, something NO ONE has seen in her before, Cecily loves her- which is so beautiful. Cecily’s entire arc is about self-realization, which is so powerful for girls.
