Lance: He really likes grilled cheese (idk i find this so endearing)
Cesar: He can’t drive
Jean: They are breaking norms left and right. One of the best hockey players their colleges’ history, dresses however they like, owns a baby blue Camaro, bakes for their friends, IS A FARMER, and makes waffles every morning. I just love them
The Tireless Pursuit of all Things Good: The Summary
“Nighttime Curiosities follows the voices of seven friends in the pursuit of the unusual and the paranormal. If that sounds like something up your alley, then stay tuned for our monthly podcast updates every first Tuesday of the month!”
Lacksett, Vermont, has its own peculiarities. From its refreshing wild flora, to the bustling of tourists one day a year to a small town of no more than two thousand residents. Or, maybe they’re here for none of that. As everyone knows, Lacksett is a paranormal beacon disguised as a small town with big dreamers. A home to demonic presences, shadow figures, psychics, and anything else they can advertise to attract the curious. But deep inside the heart of Lacksett live the Vendettas: six roommates who started a widely loved podcast called Nighttime Curiosities.
Then, there’s Inez Reyes. She is a nineteen-year-old college student and being the seventh member of Nighttime Curiosities, she thinks this is going to be the best summer of her life. Oh, and she is a little bit in love with Vermont’s reigning mathematician and alien-enthusiast, Aria Volermos, who is hiding one big secret from the rest of the world.
The Tireless Pursuit of all Things Good is a ghost story, a fantasy, and a romance. Just one more for the wandering and the curious.
[character page]
I’m nowhere done with this book, but this is going to be the official summary for now. I have an entire detailed outline done, a couple chapters down, and a lot of research everyday. I love the direction the plot took since the very original idea for these characters and I’m so excited to finish it! I finally got the motivation to continue, so get ready for some more writing updates in the future!!
hey would you maybe want to write some cesar/lance fluff ? just them being cute, going on a date, arguing over who holds the door open for the other idk i'll take anything
Cesar, running for the door: I got it!
Lance, also running for the door: No, let me!
Cesar and Lance, both hands on the door: I’m going to open it.
And this happens for a solid minute until someone else opens the door from the other side
LMAO The actual fluff is under the cut! For this, I’ll write their getting together. A li’l backstory: Lance and Cesar started off as hookups until they actually started gaining feelings for each other (bless @keithkcgne for giving me the idea lmao)
This is…long…
here’s my oc page in case anyone wants to help me battle writer’s block by sending me a prompt (that i may or may not finish) (you totally don’t have to)
If Lance hadn’t been smiling at the laptop screen, Cesar thought he would’ve been able to understand what was happening in the movie. One minute the main girl was kissing some boy, then Lance said “Aw,” and it when down from there. Now, the girl was crying on an airplane and Cesar had no idea how that happened. And he didn’t really care because then Lance was smiling at him.
On instinct, Cesar looked away, but he could actually feel Lance’s laugh from the touch of their shoulders all the way to his heart.
“Don’t stop staring just because I caught you,” Lance said. “I think we’re already too far into this thing to be shy around each other.”
Cesar turned back to Lance, eyebrows creased. “What thing?”
Lance tilted his head to the side and paused the movie. At a quick glance, the girl was drawing something. Yeah, Cesar really didn’t know what was happening.
“You and me. Me and you.”
“You mean–like–sleeping together?”
Lance shook his head. He watched Cesar and Cesar watched back. After a moment of silence, his eyes widened and he said, “You don’t think of us the same way I do.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lance closed the laptop and pushed it to the side. He looked down at his hands, opening and closing them. “I just–I thought you were my…boyfriend now.”
Cesar wasn’t surprised by many things. Clowns, storms, and Lacksett summers–these were the things that surprised him the most. But at that moment, hearing Lance call him his boyfriend, that was the most surprising thing he’d ever experienced. The universe was a curious thing, but he thought maybe it was finally giving him a break in the form of the boy next to him.
By the time he composed himself, his gift from the universe was still babbling. “I just thought that this was a date. Like, maybe we were becoming more than just a booty call to each other. But, I could be wrong. Really wrong.” He looked up, finally. “Are you going to say something?”
Maybe it was the way Lance had made himself vulnerable, or maybe it was the way his chest ached for both want and delight. But without really thinking about it, Cesar took hold of Lance’s hand and exhaled, smiling as he said, “I’d like to think that seeing a movie with a boy I like would make him my boyfriend.”
Lance’s lips quirked down, but it didn’t go unnoticed the way his eyes lit up. “But, you didn’t even know this was a date.”
Cesar pursed his lips and huffed out a laugh. “True, but it didn’t keep me from wishing it was one. And it’s not keeping me from wanting to be with you. You know, more than just a biweekly booty call.”
Lance’s smile was so brilliant, Cesar thought maybe the universe wasn’t just giving him a break–it was giving him everything he needed.
are you still taking prompts??? could you write a group scene??? like with most/all of the gang
Okay so this scene was in every reincarnation of ttpoatg except for the current one and I’ve only written half of it in Inez’s pov but I’m gonna switch it up to Lance’s pov and we’ll see how this goes
This is really great writing practice thank you so much :) BTW none of this is canon cause this assumes that Jean and Charles aren’t together by the time Hiro meets Sarah (who is a character from another story (All the Magic That Sang for You) but Hiro doesn’t meet her until after the events of ttpoatg)
here’s my oc page in case anyone wants to help me battle writer’s block by sending me a prompt (that i may or may not finish) (you totally don’t have to)
I’ll keep doing these until I stop getting prompts by the way! They really are helping so thank you so incredibly much to everyone who’s sent me one :)
When he was sixteen, Lance had witnessed Jean get a paper cut, and watched in passive horror as Jean dramatically performed first aid on themselves.
This was much worst.
“Ow, chiz! What are you doing?” Jean’s cry seemed to come from every direction of the house, as if they weren’t right in front of Lance.
“I’m trying to get the glass out of your foot. So, please calm down.” The irritation in Charles’ voice matched the furrowed eyebrows on his face. Or, maybe he was hungover. Most likely the latter, Lance decided. Charles was never the impatient type when sober.
The scene at Vendetta House was quite horrific. The smell of both rubbing and drinking alcohol wafted around the kitchen. Somewhere from the living room, Hiro was yelling for Jean to stop his crying, grumbling about he couldn’t focus on a very important phone call with Jean’s health care provider. Rangsey was by the sink, ignoring Jean’s cries in favor of cleaning up the broken glass so no one else could step on them. Cesar and Inez stood at the entrance of the kitchen, having just arrived not too long ago.
“Shouldn’t we get Jean to the hospital?” Inez asked. She came to stand behind Jean and ran her hand through their hair, calming them down. “You know, to get the wounds cleaned up properly.”
Jean winced at the mention of a hospital. Lance was aware of Jean’s aversion to hospitals.
If I can pop a bone back in place and not get billed thousands of dollars later on, they had once said, then what’s the point of going to a hospital?
“No time for hospital. We have a party to plan,” Jean hissed through gritted teeth. Then they smirked. “Besides, Charles is doing a fantastic job as an impromptu nurse. Right, Mr. Huang?”
Charles coughed, but it didn’t go unnoticed the way the corners of his lips twitched up and the soft inhale that shook his whole body. Well, it didn’t go unnoticed by everyone but Jean, who was looking away from Charles, smiling at a point in the distance.
Lance rolled his eyes at his best friend and grabbed a towel from the kitchen counter. He stood behind Charles and clapped a hand on his back, handing over the towel with a knowing wiggle of his eyebrows. He looked up to meet Cesar’s eyes.
Hey, Cesar mouthed.
Hi there, Lance smiled back.
“All of you, keep the flirting to nonexistent until Jean’s not bleeding out of one foot.” Inez kept her hands in Jean’s hair as she spoke. She leaned down to make eye contact with the injured. “What happened to you anyways? I thought you were trying to be careful ‘cause the hockey season starts next month.”
“They started chasing me around the house like a goddamn maniac,” Hiro said. Jean’s eyes immediately sought him out and the smile on their face was all confirmation for Inez that that was true. This was news to Lance as well. He had in his and Cesar’s room, picking out a movie to watch tonight, when the sound of broken glass and crying shook the silence of the house.
“Why was that, huh?” Lance turned around and found Rangsey standing up, arms crossed, a playful smirk trained at Hiro.
Hiro looked away, but Jean’s laugh was bright. “You should’ve seen it–I found Hiro using Rangsey to practice asking out Sarah.”
“Shut up!” Hiro pointed a finger at Jean, but then crossed his arms instead, huffing out a sigh. “The insurance company said they won’t pay for any medical supplies unless you go to the hospital.”
“Nice subject change.” Charles wrapped Jean’s foot in a clean towel and fiddled around with the ends of the knot. He looked up at Hiro and raised an eyebrow. “You still haven’t asked her out?”
Hiro scoffed. “You’re one to talk.”
“Don’t talk to me like that.” Charles gathered up all the trash beside him and stood up. His cheeks were red and infatuation couldn’t quite compare to how Lance imagined Charles to be feeling for his best friend.
It was all in the signs. How Charles would smile at his phone whenever Jean texted the group chat; or how he’d stop whatever he was doing to join Jean in a late night trip to the grocery store; or how he’d check on “Sagittarius” every time a zodiac thread came across his feed, but forgetting everyone else’s signs. This wasn’t a crush at all.
write about why charles dislikes ferris wheels it doesnt even makes sense ut he does
Have I mentioned this before?? Because, anon, Charles does not like heights so you’re right! But he has a different reason for not liking ferris wheels. Okay, get ready to get disappointed in the end
Thank you so much for sending this, but I really did lose steam in the end there
here’s my oc page in case anyone wants to help me battle writer’s block by sending me a prompt (that i may or may not finish) (you totally don’t have to)
At the end of the day, Charles Huang was a coward. Not in the way cowards on TV are written–bumbling messes of nerves and remorse. For the second time that month, Charles had convinced himself to not pull out the ring at the top of the ferris wheel. It wasn’t that he was afraid of Jean’s answer, he just kept telling himself that the sunset wasn’t at its peak when they reached the top. That was what made him a coward.
By the time they reached the bottom, the sun had fully set and Jean was, once again, without a ring. There wasn’t much left to do after a whole day spent at the town’s fair, but Jean managed to drag Charles to a few of their favorite games from earlier in the day. It wasn’t long until they only had two tickets left, which was around the time Charles’s hands began to sweat from the weight of the box in his back pocket.
“Wanna go on the ferris wheel again?” Jean asked. They had that smile. The one that had Charles saying, “Let’s go.”
As much as he hated heights, Charles had nothing against ferris wheels. They were slow, romantic, and secure. The way he could touch Jean’s knees the whole ride and know they were there was magical. So, yeah, Charles liked ferris wheels.
He counted down the stops until it was their turn at the top of wheel.

“Hey, Charles, don’t freak out, okay?”
“Why would I?”
“There’s something you need to know, but I don’t know how you’re gonna react. Just don’t freak out.”
2…
“You’re not really making any sense.”
Silence. Jean began to fiddle with something in their hand.

Jean lifted their hand up to reveal a silver object in their palm. “I think one of the screws on the door fell off.”

[I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS I JUST DON’T KNOW HOW TO WRITE IT IM SO SORRY!!
Long story short: Charles starts to get scared and the whole way down, Jean is trying their best to reassure them. In the end, Charles did not propose and he can’t look at ferris wheels the same way again]
hey.... hey.... write some Arinez fluff (this isn’t meagan)
Hmm I wonder who this could be 🤔🤔🤔
So there was this scene in the old ttpoatg idea (where Aria and Inez are fake dating) that didn’t fit in the new ttpoatg idea, but I’ve always wanted to write it so here we go!
here’s my oc page in case anyone wants to help me battle writer’s block by sending me a prompt (that i may or may not finish) (you totally don’t have to)
“What if we get caught?” Inez asked for the third time that night.
She sat on the edge of the counter, swinging her legs as she watched her fake girlfriend wipe her hands on a towel. Sometimes Inez forgot they weren’t really dating, and the ache in her chest wasn’t just her wanting Aria, but wanting all of this to be real. This. The grazes of skin on skin, the intimacy, the way Aria’s Vermont accent thickened when calling Inez “sweetheart” or “darling” in front of their friends. She wanted this to be real.
Aria turned around, her lips turning up in a smile as she turned the volume up on the little radio by the sink. “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King. Their favorite song.
“We won’t,” she said for the third time that night. She closed the gap between her and Inez and placed her palms on her knees, leaning closer. Personal space was nothing to them anymore. “And even if we do, would it be so bad?”
“Yes? Aren’t we doing this so we wouldn’t get caught?”
Aria hummed to the radio. Her voice was magical. Not in the way it could cast spells, but in the way Inez always felt exposed and open.
“Just sing with me, okay?” Inez didn’t miss the way Aria’s words cracked at the last word.
