Physico-chemical Characterization and Fatty Acid Profile of the Acrocomia emensis (Arecaceae) Seed Oil | Chapter 03 | Research and Development in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 1
In Brazil there are several oleaginous plants, with the potential to supply oil as raw material for various types of industries (cosmetic, pharmaceutical, energy, among others), among them we have the Acrocomia emensis (Arecaceae) known as Tucum rasteiro. The objective of this work was to realize: extraction of the oil of the almonds using two types of cold mechanical press (walrus type and manual hydraulic type of 15 tons), physical-chemical analyzes (acidity index, peroxides, refraction, moisture and volatile material, ash, viscosity and density at 25ºC) and fatty acid profile of the oil extracted from almonds of A. emensis from three localities in the northern state of Minas Gerais, Brazil (Bonito de Minas, Brasília de Minas and Montes Claros). The values of the physical-chemical indexes varied among the samples from the different locations. Extraction using walrus type press provided higher yield. The fatty acids of the oils of the three origins were: Caprylic, capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic.

On one of my walks around the bohemian area of Santa Teresa, I stumbled upon TUCUM – a store dedicated to showcasing produce made by ingenious people of Brazil. I was immediately drawn in by the colourful tribal products on display, much of which reminded me of my shopping experience in Maasai markets in Kenya last year.
I was greeted by Marina, who welcomed us in with a warm friendly smile… It wasn’t long before I was lost in the beauty of each skilfully crafted piece; beaded necklaces, earrings, bracelets and cravings. Naturally, I wanting to buy the whole shop!
TUCUM’s mission is to value and promote the art of indigenous and traditional populations in Brazil, and generate income for these communities. They do this by establishing strong commercial partnerships with associations, cooperatives, producer groups or artists, with an emphasis on ethics, legality, sustainability, respect for local realities and the construction of economically balanced relationships.
The brand is named after the Tucum palm tree found throughout Brazil. It’s leaves, fruits and seeds are widely used by different traditional communities. The fibre extracted from the leaves creates the strong stready material used to weave beautiful nets. This palm tree is metaphoric of TUCUM – weaving nets between people.

#todospelaamazonia #Repost @tucumbrasil (@get_repost) ・・・ MAIS UM ATAQUE DE TEMER À NOSSA SOCIO BIODIVERSIDADE E AOS NOSSOS DIREITOS: ATRAVÉS DE DECRETO ARBITRÁRIO GOVERNO CONVOCA MINERADORAS À NOVA CAÇA AO OURO NA AMAZÔNIA Termer extingue monopólio estatal de mineração na Renca (Reserva Nacional de Cobre e Seus Associados), área do tamanho do Espírito Santo (e maior que a Dinamarca), entre Pará e Amapá, com alto potencial de ouro e outros metais. A reserva impacta diretamente nove áreas protegidas: Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque; as Florestas Estaduais do Paru e do Amapá; a Reserva Biológica de Maicuru; a Estação Ecológica do Jari; a Reserva Extrativista Rio Cajari; a Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável do Rio Iratapuru; e as Terras Indígenas Waiãpi e Rio Paru d’Este.
