Loyiso Gola took his Professional Black show to the festival this year. His satirical take on South African politics and global culture made his show very popular amongst local audiences in South Africa earlier this year . Athough performing to a much smaller audience, the response to his show in Edinburgh this year was met with good with Professional Black being listed 2nd on the Evening Times' Top 10: 2013 Fringe Comedy Acts at the festival this year.
It is hard to put The Soil into a box, this a cappela collective comprising of one beat boxer and two singers on vocals have been having a great year. Earlier this year they received rave reviews for their show at the Apollo Theatre in New York and their performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe saw them perform an incredible mix of kasi-soul, jazz, afro pop and hip hop sounds, including a beautiful tribute to Miriam Makeba.
Other South African acts at the festival this year included the first South African female comedian to have a solo show at the festival, Tumi Morake. Five piece a cappela band from Johannesburg Afrika Entsha as well as popular local theatre production Solomon and Marian.
