Tum thought of the day: do counter-clockwise rubs do anything?
Every time I try to google it, everything talks about "clockwise" rubs, following the natural path of the intestines and how that stimulates digestion and helps ease everything--speeds up digestion of an overly stuffed tummy, relieves gas pains, helps with cramps, etc. Like…cool. Following the path of digestion soothes things. Got it.
So…what about the other way? Does massaging in the other direction, intentionally, do anything? Does it disrupt stuff? I mean, it's still stimulating stuff, right? Would it just be less effective, but still result in the same thing? Would it create upset? Would it disrupt digestion, cause everything to contract in the wrong rhythm and be like trying to paddle against a current? Would it cause trapped gas to sit there, rather than move to an exit?
Anyone want to weigh in? Surely, someone out there has experienced a backward massage. I know what I hope it would do, in fiction, but what about reality? Has anyone experienced it? Does anyone wanna experiment and report back? Y'know…for science?
And for those that hate trying to figure out "clockwise" and whatever--every resource I look up insists the only way to rub a tummy is to start on the person's lower right, go up, then left across the ribs, down along their left side, and then back to the right, under the navel. So…what happens if you go the other way--for a long while? Does the stomach ache increase? Does it take longer to bring any sort of relief?
