One of the Most Important Latvian Songwriters You've Probably Never Heard Of: Mārtiņš Freimanis

From Grunge to Pop, From an English Teacher to a Rock Star & Performing in Eurovision !

‘‘Looks like Kurt Cobain’’ in relief the band expressed when they saw their new singer (Mazvērsīte, 2018, p 50). Not only did Freimanis look like Cobain at the time, with his bleached hair but their debut album ‘‘Putni’’ (1998) [transl. ‘‘Birds’’] was influenced by Nirvana and Whitesnake. Whilst grunge was mainstream in the United States in the 1990s, it`s influence also extends to Latvia.

In 2004, Freimanis wrote the song ''The War Is Not Over'' and gave it to Latvian beloved musicians Valters Frīdenbergs and Kārlis Būmeisters, known as Valters & Kaža (members of Putnu Balle). The song won the Latvian National selection and represented Latvia in the international Eurovision contest in 2005, held in Kyiv, Ukraine, fisnishing in the 5th position.

Hi! I'm years late to Thorin/Bilbo, I don't know how and why (LOTR books/movies are my all time favorites and I have been a fan for decades) I missed it all but yesterday I suddenly realized I love that ship, of course I am struggling to find any active blogs, communities, challenges etc. since I am five years late. Would you have anything to recommend? Are there even active blogs at all? I am asking you because Tumblr recommended me your blog when I was searching for it. Thank you in advance!

oh gosh! 

well i can say the fandom is still fairly active, especially within the bagginshield fandom. 

to begin with i would say at least follow the bagginshield (and thilbo too) tag, because it does tend to update daily (sometimes its just the auto ao3 blog but still). and also check out ao3′s bagginshield tag. its not 100% the best all the time but if youre willing to look for fics that sound good, you will find them! 

in fact i’ll link to @lesbiankiliel‘s fic rec for that link (also she does a ton of reccing so check out her fic rec tag too) 

re: blogs 

honestly i follow a lot of people so i cant rec everyone that i know (because i forgot sometimes) but i can give you a couple of people in the fandom (and if anyone who sees this wants to add on that theyre an active blog in this fandom pls do)

yes, it's like suddenly your mind thinks it's normal to travel in time and space and everything that is unrealistic in real life is just fine and dandy in dreams. you should tell your weirdest dream!

thats a big challenge because all my dreams are weird af (man you should ask my mom lmfao) but um the weirdest so far.... god how did it start

i dont really remember a lot of it since it was so. long. ago. (im talking years here) but my grandma had this kind of bubblegum that could create animals? like they were supposed to be dogs in the dream we were all like “dogs!” but it was a mix of dog, chicken, bird??????? cat maybe too??? it was fucking weird ok and i was obsessed with it and wanted to create one but my grandma wouldnt let me and then suddenly we were on top of this giant water slide? people were ykno going down and having fun but me my grandma and my mom were just sitting there! and my grandma had her purse next to her? wtf and i just kept trying to steal the bubblegum and i think in the end i managed to do it but then we were in this weir d aquarium but it wasnt an aquarium because it was full of round glass cages with dogs inside it was like a shelter but not really bc we kept calling it aquarium it was all blue and neon and i????? had suddenly forgotten about the bubblegum and was looking at a husky and thats all i remember ._.

i have the feeling that there were people or something in the cages too but im not too sure so ......

you can blacklist tumblr users (using their username) if you don’t want to block them or unfollow, you won’t see their posts. and then you can remove their username from blacklist once you feel better or think you can handle that stuff. i mean you might miss out on something but i’ve done it from time to time and i much rather miss out one lovely post than deal with reading five that make me feel bad.

<3 <3 <3 i might do that. althought i feel like the fear of missing out is gonna be just as bad...especially bc i dont really follow many people and if i blacklist all the ones that are making me uncomfortable atm my dash is gonne be dead... maybe i should start with going on a follow spree first to drown out my dash a little bit :/ but thank you so so much, love <3 <3
