@something-tofightfor & @its-my-little-dumpster-fire tagged me to share 5 songs that I’ve been listening to on repeat lately. All of these come from one of three writing playlists. Care to guess which is which?
Tagging: @gollyderek @malionnes @markcampbells @delos-mio @fific7 @zaffrenotes @corellianhounds @alraedesigns @valkblue @pheedraws
new music obsession
Hi all! welcome to another episode of:MUSIC RECS NO ONE ASKED FOR...
the VHS Collective- Retrofuturism specifically: Sign and I Can’t Stand it.
hope you enjoy the tunes!
a premonition of the world comes to me a sign in your eyes a familiar light says i’m alright
.
i said it’s been such a long time since someone looked at me that way it’s like you knew me and all the things i couldn’t say
13? 😌
13- favorite writing song/artist/album of this year:
Well this is impossible to whittle down to one of anything. But some top contenders are Light of Love by F+tM for CD Logan, Literally anything by LUTHI for SYiNY Logan, Wherever is Your Heart by Brandi Carlisle for the future glimpses of Ryan and Junebug that I’ve been writing, Like All of Ceremonials for In the Arms of the Ocean but obviously Never Let Me Go more than others, Steady As We Go by DMB for TGTBT.
those are probably my favs as far as series playlists go.
IO by Helen Stellar and I Can’t Stand It by VHS Collection both inspired Art Appreciation Submission pieces for Logan (This Time Around and Feel More Alive for @valkblue & @pheedraws )
UM HI I HAVE A QUESTION... or maybe a request? but it’s not a writing prompt. in honor of your birthday, can you share with me a list of your favorite dance jams, hype songs, whatever you wanna call em? OKAY THANKS HAPPY DANCE PARTYING! ☺️
DANCE JAMS!!!!!
Yes. Always. More dancing.
These are in no particular order, much like the rest of my life:
LUTHI- like, literally everything they’ve ever done, but specifically Sleepwalkin’ and Long Distance Lover.
Florence + the Machine- SO MUCH TWIRLING. Kiss with a Fist, Drumming Song, Shake it Out, and Ship to Wreck. (Bonus- Under the Thumb from when she was with Ashok)
Fleetwood Mac- oh look MORE TWIRLING. Rhiannon, You Make Lovin’ Fun, and Go Yoir Own Way.
Alice Merton- Roots and Why So Serious?
Bruce Springsteen- THE BOSS. Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Rosalita, Pink Cadillac and Prove it All Night.
Cold War Kids- Miracle Mile (also makes a great car concert song)
The Cure- Friday I’m in Love
Feist- Sealion Woman and My Moon My Man
The Killers- Just... all of Hot Fuss.
Lady Gaga- look she’s wild and crazy okay? And when I really wanna let loose I channel my inner Monster and I j a m to Born this Way or Edge of Glory (shout out to the Big Man for making this list twice!!)
Mat Kearney- most of the album Young Love is just so danceworthy. Count on Me, Young Dumb and in Love, and Hey Mama.
I love this question!!! HEY EVERYONE SEND ME YOUR FAVORITE DANCE JAMS!!!
For the question thing, what are you top 5 playlist you have going? Also, got any music recs??
Hi Laura!! Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner!! i LOVE this question, and I’m going to answer with my top 5 writing playlists:
5- In the Arms of the Ocean: this playlist is...pretty much all Florence + the Machine because she sings about the water quite a bit. Standouts on this one are Never Let Me Go (from which this series gets its name), What the Water Gave Me & then here’s one rando that kinda has nothing to do with the story but oddly enough was playing when I got the idea for it- Trouble by The Franklin Electric. (Which kind of fits my newer Caspian story a little better... hmm...)
4- Let’s Face the Music & Dance: this playlist makes me SMILE and dance and even though I hit a snag with John (ugh.) when I listen to this playlist it makes me feel like maybe just MAYBE i might be able to get him back on track. Stand outs (aside from the titular song obviously): Love is the Drug by the Bryan Ferry Orchestra , There’s No True Love by Rachel and Vilray, and Dress and Tie by Charlene Kaye and Darren Criss
3- Passing Through: There was just no way that I would make it through this list without Ryan Brenner jumping in. This playlist grows almost daily with either songs that remind me of Ryan, or of Reader, or that I could see Ryan singing, and it’s almost impossible to pick three but here: Push the Blues Away by Josh Teskey & Ash Grunwald, Texas Sun by Khruangbin & Leon Bridges and my absolute favorite on that list, Eavesdrop by The Civil Wars (I mourn the breakup of this band deeply)
2- Core Drive: Oooooof. This list is mostly heavy hitters but i think it’s probably the list that best fits the series. In Cold Blood by Alt- J (ignore the Caspian cameo in this song lol but i mean... down to the 01110011...this one really fits the story I’m telling.) Light of Love by F+tM , A Violent Noise by the XX and the song that started this playlist, Belong by X Ambassadors. This playlist is the longest one, so you got an extra standout.
1- See You in New York: THIS PLAYLIST IS SO MUCH FUN YOU GUYS. It’s a sunny day vibe all the way through. Long Distance Lover by LUTHI is the fairy godsong of this series, Time Won’t Go Slowly by Snow Patrol (this is the song I listened to on a loop when I wrote the airport/ hotel bar scenes) and Animal Love I by Charlene Kaye are the standouts of this list of standouts.
BONUS: A REC NOT ON ANY LIST AT THE MOMENT- Bahamas, Up With the Jones.
Thanks for asking about my tunes, dude! I’m always happy to share my playlists and dance tunes!
